Great addition to the franchise!
First off, I would like to address the hate this game seems to generate. As a long time Final Fantasy fan, I've come to know that each entry in the franchise is different to it's predecessor's and will NOT be exactly the same as the previous. Yes, there will be familiar elements from the previous installments in some of the other games, but they have to include new elements to progress the franchise too. You can't throw the dummy out of the pram because you've been kicked out of your comfort zone and thrown into the unknown! In this case, all I seem to hear is that the battle system was crap, didn't work, was too clunky blah blah blah. Then, if it wasn't that, then it was the linearity of the world. While there is some linearity, it by no means hampers the story progress, character development or anything else either! It may not be as open world as some other installments (in some places) but, as I mentioned, no other aspect of the games is affected by it. With regards to the battle system, I (and many others if you simply Google) thought the battle mechanics worked extremely well and made it feel a lot more dynamic! Being able to switch job/class in the heat of battle to counter certain aspects of the various enemy attacks made it feel fast paced, dynamic and at times, quite exciting. But, it's only effective if you can set up your team with the appropriate jobs/class in the paradigm shift menu. This is where I think some of the hate comes from too, that some didn't fully understand it, didn't set up properly and therefore weren't effective enough in battles (or were just too lazy to grind a few extra levels). Rant aside, this installment was actually really enjoyable for me. The characters were well thought out and had their own personalities. Whether you grew to like or hate certain members, you had to appreciate the work put into them. The world was actually visually stunning and superbly detailed! There were definitely a few times where I kind of forgot to get on with the game and just wandered around taking in the various vistas! The story, for me, is where this installment really shines. It's imaginative and well structured, with gods and monsters, conspiracies and a few other things I won't mention. Overall, I liked this addition to the series. It was interesting, at times a little sad but worth the playthrough.

Brilliant
I did not like Final Fantasy gameplay but this caught my eye and my appeal for brilliant story line. The game was the longest game I have every played but somehow, I wanted it to keep on playing. The game was an all in all success and I ended up purchasing the following two games. I will say, hands down, this - with the other two games - is the best game I have ever played.

Good rpg but expect a grind
Enjoyed most of this game, despite the typical rpg grind. Loved the story and most of the characters. Only problem as far as i was concerned was having to wait until chapter 11 before being permited to side quest, which is almost at the end of the game. Even Leona Lewis couldn't spoil this one.

not the best of the series
Final fantasy 13 has some of the best graphics and music ever seen. however, the gameplay is a different story. you can no longer free roam so its always one pathway and its abit irritating. the combat is similar to x-2 and seven but has a new system where you can "stagger" your enemies and swap different roles from commando to ravager to medic and so on. the story was very epic at the begining and hopefully i will love the game at the end.

Huge FF nerd
I just love any final fantasy game, not a massive RPG player but when it comes to Final Fantasy that changes. I've played all the FF series and love them all, and completed them all. XIII is fantastic, and would strongly recommend playing the prequels before this. Big thumbs up xD

Pretty isn't everything...
This is a terrible and far too linear FF game. Looks pretty but they forgot story, compelling characters and free-roaming. Just remake VII and have done with it!

delivered on time :) terrible game though :(
the worst final fantasy yet. Jrpg's should stick to what they are good at and not try to westernise the franchise. I mean choosing Leona Lewis for the main song. This game was designed to get more credit on the western market as the developers are wanting to expand their market. I could go on all day. To simplify: Story : interesting but too long drawn out. (It takes up to 10 hours for the game to become interesting) Combat : Terrible(the reson i dislike it so much) - stop streamlining combat jeez!! some people like a challenge!! i like to use my brain ;) Longetivity: well over 40 hours for the main campaign soundtrack: Some great orchestral and rock tunes BUT LEONA LEWIS!! seriously?? what market are enix aiming at here?? pop cultures teeny boppers? sure f*** it why not have one direction do the next game :P
