The best value laptop for machine learning and gaming
This is the only sub-$1000 4060 laptop on the market today. I bought it not to play games, but to do machine learning (AI, pre-trained/large language modeling) AND, yeah, to play the occasional game on the road.I can see why people are slightly disappointed if they only want to use this for gaming. I get it. I have the Gigabyte Aero 15 XD, which is a 4K OLED, RTX 3070, multiple ports, great speakers, great display, fast processor, yada yada yada.Compared to my Gigabyte Aero 15 XD, the Gigabyte G5 KF, is lacking in screen resolution (1080p), port features (for example, the USB-A do not drive external displays, can't power laptop through USB-A, HDMI not connected to GPU), speakers are tinny, display isn't as crisp, processor isn't as powerful, and so on.But we're talking a sub-$1000 machine versus a $2000 machine. The sound can be fixed with headphones, and you can plug in an external display if you need a nicer screen. For machine learning, it is perfect. The VRAM is 8GB which fits most of the distilled, small-to-medium, models on HuggingFace. I've trained small language models (several hundred thousand parameters) from scratch, and it zooms. I was curious how much faster a 4060 was compared to an old nvidia 860M. The 4060 has 3072 CUDA cores, compared to 1152 for the 860M. The test model I trained completed in 5 minutes on a 4060 versus 90 minutes for the 860M (1152 CUDA cores). But I digress, it is perfect for machine learning, and only slightly slower than my Desktop 3060 and 3070 machines for deep learning training.I did try one AAA video game: Starfield, ultra settings. It only did 30-40 fps. But it was playable. Lower settings did get >60fps.To summarize, as a portable machine learning machine, it is AWESOME with a capital "A". A good gaming machine speed wise, but only ok sound-wise and display-wise.Note: I did upgrade to 32GB ram and an extra 1TB nvme-ssd. But even with these additions, it was LESS THAN $1000!

You’re getting the latest 4000 series laptop at an “affordable” price
Fantastic laptop, I’m loving it. There’s a lot of DIY work that needs to be done before you can game stress free, but I knew what I signed up for when I bought it because of the many reviews regarding high temps.1. Make sure to repaste the GPU & CPU to improve temps. I’m constantly gaming between 70-80C’, which is awesome. (idle for both after repasting is at 40C’).2. Download Throttlestop and tick Disable Turbo to prevent the CPU from overworking unnecessarily. Make sure the settings are turned on at the bottom. I’ve never needed more than 70% utilisation in games, because the CPU is quite powerful.3. Download MSI Afterburner and overclock the GPU power by 400 & memory by 800 (this helped me get an extra 3-5 FPS in demanding games).4. Make use to make use of the Control Center app that comes with the laptop to monitor usage and make adjustments accordingly (I use Performance mode for new AAA games & Quiet mode for everything else, it works just fine).5. A usb cooling pad also helped improve temps somewhat.NB NB NB, upgrade the RAM to minimum 24Gb (8+16), and add an additional SSD. But as a gamer I’m sure you already knew that…

Overheating
I had this product for only a week and it overheated and shut off . It would also freeze up on me if I let it go to the screen saver. Would not recommend buying this. I returned it.

Would have been great but........
Bought this last year. Seemed like a great price, great value, and great stats, however please read all reviews and more importantly watch YouTube reviews. This laptop has two major flaws: 1, it does not dissipate heat well at all so you need a chiller pad. 2, the power supply is too weak, it will overheat and cause performance issues .Had to buy an MSI power supply with more power so the computer would not freeze and shut down while playing games. Once the new power supply and chillipad were purchased, most of the major issues went away. The only lasting issue is, in performance mode, devices connected to USB type-c inputs tend to shut off and come back on. I am tech savvy so I checked all the drivers I checked everything nothing in the performance mode setting should have anything to do with the USB ports performance however it does affect it. If I'm not in performance mode, or not playing games these things do not happen. Now compared to some of the competitors with older Hardware costing a couple of hundred dollars more than this one overall I would say it's a 4.5 out of 5. So to recap get a better power supply. And get a laptop Chiller pad. As long as these items are purchased this laptop will give you great performance as a gaming PC.

Portable Desktop, Not a Laptop
The Good: Since I had a smooth return least I can do is give an honest review. Laptop is not the worst... It was good for music production but not for gaming unless you have an external monitor to hook up to... Then it'll work. If you aren't taking your laptop places this could work for you as a primary desktop PC, just not a laptop. The Bad: The reason I bought a laptop was so I wouldn't have to lug my portable PC build around. There's no point in owning a laptop if you still need to hook it up to an external monitor to bypass Optimus and because the laptop screen has the worst response time I've ever seen. A 60hz external monitor has a better response time than this screen. Originally a $1,000 laptop. Bought for $800 on sale. This is a $400-$600 laptop in my opinion, on a good day. Just pay the extra money for a nice one. Get the Acer Nitro... If you're REALLY strapped for income then you could make this work but if you're already paying $800 just spend another $200 for something nicer.

Great performance and a beast!
This laptop is very powerful. I add another 8gb memory and it has no issues on any video games like deadly dozen reloaded, OHD, isonzo, modern warfare 2 remastered and other games! This is my first gigabyte laptop. Rtx 4060 is great! The only issue is the sound. And no ear bud could support this laptop perfectly. Of course there is no perfection. You gain something you lost something.
