At last a nutcracker that cracks almonds
Being a nut lover has its challenges, one of those being the ability to crack almonds and over the years I have broken many nutcrackers in the process. This Robert Welch nutcracker is however different, it is sturdy and whilst it may take a few attempts to crack an almond, it works. I had a few mishaps when first using it, I locked a nut so hard that I managed to unscrew the handle when attempting to erase the unbroken nut and I thought I had already broken it but fortunately I managed to unlock the nut with pliers and screw the handle back on; what I learned is that for hard to crack nuts, you have to find its weak spot rather than applying force and eventually it will crack; this cast iron nutcracker is a well thought piece of old fashion mechanical engineering and should last ( I will change my rating if it doesn’t). Hazelnuts are a breeze to crack and no shell pieces flying everywhere, and it looks great next to the nut basket… A bonus!

Probably the best nutcracker on the market
My initial response when i opened the box was wow this is heavy, it is exceptionally well made the threads are silky smoothe to use and it works like a charm, pecans are still a little difficult to crack and require a little more force but still achievable however almost every other nut is effortless.I have lost count of the amount of nutcrackers i have broken or thrown out because they simply don't work this may well be the last one I ever purchase as I very much doubt I could break this thing even if i tried it is so well made.Would absolutely recommend this product its a little bit more expensive than some others but when you see it you will understand what your paying for and realise it is worth every penny.

Very sturdy and easy to use
We have had this over a year now and it is the best nut cracker we have ever had. It is really easy to use and looks good next to the nut bowl.I was really surprised at how heavy it is. Great quality.

Cool kit that does the job.
It looks cool and I used it for Christmas now it sits on a shelf looking great next to my apple peeler. It works well, is well built and does the job it was intended for and it will crush anything you want it to, hold it flat with one hand and screw with the other and it's great with no chance of slipping or pinching skin if you slip.

Fantastic
Not sure about negative reviews? I needed a safe and sturdy nutcracker after catching my fingers in the standard sort more than once. So easy to use and hubby, who has strength issues in his hands is over the moon with this nutcracker. He loves nuts and as they are good for him I buy him plenty. Prior to buying this nutcracker the nuts tended to sit in the bowl for ages because it was so difficult to crack them. Now hubby will sit and eat one after another because it’s so easy to crack them with this nutcracker. The nutcracker seems very sturdy, certainly, very weighty, and only time will tell on longevity, but unless the screwing assembly fails for some reason I can’t see why it shouldn’t last for many years.

Looks pretty, but didn't really work
This was a well made, solid item, and it looked like it would do the job. However, put a nut into it and it becomes almost impossible to turn the handle to do the actual cracking part. I can't tell whether that was because it was faulty or because the design just didn't really work in practice. Even my husband (who is 6 foot 2 and 15 stone) found it hard to use, and both of us found it more difficult to crack a nut with than the standard pliers-type nut cracker. I might be clumsy, but I also found it easy to accidentally trap my finger as I turned the mechanism, and as you can't fasten it down it would be easy to knock off a work-surface (which could cause injury or damage to the floor below because of the weight). All told it wasn't something that worked effectively. So we returned it and got a refund.

A design classic which is great fun to use
This is a fabulous, sturdy and well made nut-cracking ‘machine’! (With little rubber pads to prevent scratches to the table) So fun to use, it tackles all nuts in a precise way - no more explosions of shell and nut fragments!Nuts can be up to 35mm in diameter (so no coconuts) and the precise pressure you can exert mean that you are much more likely to extract a whole and unbroken nut. This design icon from 1964 feels sturdy and weighty - guaranteed to be a real talking point.
