Better than other distortion pedals I've used, would recommend
It's a very good pedal. The one thing I was worried about before buying it was that I'd have to buy the power adapter to power it, but this one you can power with a regular 9V plug, and I'm currently powering it off my T Rex Fuel Tank JR and it's working just fine off that.An other thing in impressed with is that there's not as much background noise as I was expecting, which compared to other distortion pedals I've used l, that's really good.Though, it sounds more like a fuzz than I was expecting. I knew it was a fuzz type distortion, but I didn't realize it'd sound that fuzzy. If it wasn't for that I'd have put 5 stars instead of 4. I'll still be using it though. Though I proffer distortion to fuzz, I was wanting to get a fuzz eventually anyway just to experiment with.If you like grung, doom metal and punk, this is the pedal for you.

It’s a rat.
It’s a ProCo Rat. It’s been around for years for one simple reason. The reason being it’s a PROCO RAT.

Incredibly versatile.
I have removed three other overdrives from my chain because this is such a versatile pedal. It goes from punk to AC/DC esc overdrive to smooth Floyd solo type stuff. One of the things that most surprised me was how reactive it is to your guitars volume control so you can go from a light blues boost to full on smooth distortion just by turning the volume up just like a good tube amp does. Also has really good note separation and clarity. One of my favourite pedals I've had in the last thirty years of playing and I've had so many pedals that have all come and gone but this is a keeper. Don't let the word distortion put you off because it is a jack of all trades. The filter really helps going from hum-buckers and single coils so there's never a problem with harshness or muddiness.

Great pedal!!!
I think this pedal is the best distortion pedal I have ever had! I got it 'cos I wanted a good boost to play solos and this defintitely gives you that. I recommend downloading the manual to give you an idea of the settings. I find you don't always have to crank up the disortion too much with this pedal except for solos. It is pretty easy to use, you just adjust the distortion, filter and volume to suit. I still haven't worked out all the sounds you can get from it but so far I love it. I have tried other pedals like The Big Muff but I like the Rat best. It is a good all round distortion pedal. It isn't too 'harsh' like alot of distortion pedals out there. It isn't a 'tone killer' either. It can give you a nice heavy sound but not overbearing. So just go get it!

What can I say?
Simply brilliant. There is no distortion like it out there, especially for the price. It has it own character that has to be explored with your own set up, but is very well demonstrated on the likes of youtube if you want a taste. Slightly spikey top end with the filter down for my setup, but that's why the filter is there. Well built and good battery life. Only downside (to find something to moan about) is the 9V input at the arse-end is a 3.5mm jack (headphone standard) which means you can't power it with a multi-way PSU. So what?! If it's good enough for Gilmore, it's good enough for us...No idea how I lived so long with out this.

WOW. No adaptor converter required
Wow, this pedal is awesome. If you're after a meaty fuzz style distortion then this is perfect for you. It's sounds amazing with my Fender Supersonic Amp and Gibson ES 339. Another important note is you can power this pedal with a standard 9v Boss adaptor. No need for additional leads or adaptors as suggested in other posts.
