Right size for my Mercer knife
It fits my Mercer knife, that was a hand me down, from a friend. I did oil it with mineral oil, and waxed it, like all of my saya that I own. Seems sturdy and will last me years

Temper your expectations, this is a $10 saya
I would temper any expectations about this product looking or feeling great. If you look on the market for gyuto sayas, they're all at least 2-3x the price of this product.I bought 7 sayas as to pair with knives I bought as gifts. All I needed was something that looks decent -- it basically served as a prop that can withstand some light/infrequent use too. The wood is soft, the glue isn't very strong, and the rubber pin is made a least half a millimeter too wide for the hole. I split the glue holding the saya together on a few sayas when I tried to remove the pins . For ease of use, I ended up shaving down the rubber pins with a razor until it fit the hole better. It's not an incredible product, that's for sure. However, for something that costs the same as a Chipotle bowl, it gets the job done.It for sure fits the 210 mm gyutos I bought: Sakai Takayuki Damascus Hammered VG-10.

feels alright but didnt fit the knife it was intended for!
its a nice case!MAKE SURE TO LOOK AT THE DIMENSIONS OF IT!!! it didnt fit the santoku that i bought it for but it did fit one of my other santokus so it wasnt a loss! its nice to have to protect the other knife but my more expensive knife had a larger distance from the spine to the blade so it doesnt fit most "standard" cases!

Measure Your Knife
The saya for the 8" chef knife is very well made, and functions as it should. Handle carefully and pass it down to a grandchild. Do not complain about the saya not working if you attempt to use it for something other than an 8" chef's knife. Do not complain about the saya if you do not know how to measure correctly. The description gives very detailed measurements, so do not blame the saya or the manufacturer for your incompetence.I like the grain of the ash wood, and it will not stain my carbon steel chef's knife. Everything is well sanded and smoth, with no splinters or rough spots. A light coat of cutting board oil will protect the finish nicely. Very good product for the money.

Smaller than advertised
I purchased the 6" Mercer Santoku and this Saya works perfectly for my needs. Should be noted that my 6" Santoku barely squeezes into this Saya. I would assume anything larger will not fit, watchout.
