Lovely classic kids stofy
I got this as a present for a work colleague who now in her mid 30's and works with children, she rememberd it from her childhood and the lessons it taught and wanted to read it again! It came in great condition almost like new, it had been used as a reference book at a university library and did have a sticker on it which I tried to rub off which didn't end well, but that was my fault. In terms of the seller the book came as expected and on time.

Great book
A fantastic book- fun but also thought provoking, the illustrations by Michael Foreman are superb and very atmospheric. I used this as part of the Hamilton planning with my year 4 class. They loved it. I could see it being useful with older children to discuss a range of issues which are implied within the story, however it can happily be read and enjoyed simply as a fun story with a twist!

Great book
This book is great for empathy studies and the storyline is great for children investigating family lives and friendship.

The children loved it.Great illustrations, lots to talk about and a wide vocabulary to encourage the children in their own story writing.

Fantastic Read!
I have been reading this text with my year 3 class and they are thoroughly enjoying it. We have been unraveling the subtext on each page and focusing on the emotion and feelings of each character. We also discussed how our view of Mrs. Cole changed as we read through the book. My students have created some wonderful work based on this text and we have used it to create displays in the classroom. I have also put other books by Nigel Gray in my reading corner so that the students can enjoy more texts like this. A fantastic read! (To help out other teachers the lesson plan that goes with this book can be found on Hamilton Trust under 'Stories in Familiar Settings'.)

cleverly written
I was recommended this book by another teacher. It is a bit scary to begin and the children love scary stories! It touches on empathy for the boy with a working mum who never seems to be happy with him. There are empty threats that he will be punished and a delightful end when we are shown how it is wrong to judge a person by what you see.

Great story and book in almost new condition
First I am very happy with this purchase as the book was in excellent condition. Second this is very good story to read. As a childcare provider, I read to children of young age and the story is supporting my teaching them about differences. People might look different and their own special ways may scare us, but in fact, they are just as good as anyone else. The children I read that story to keep asking me to read it again and again. This book should be on every child's book shelf.

not all is what is seems
I love this book! I used to read it in Dutch to my children whenever I visited my family in Holland.( I live in France ). I tried to lay my hand on the book but I am not the only one in the family who loves it so it stayed at my niece' s home. As I wanted so dearly a copy for my own I went on research and found one in English which was sent to me from Japan!! I was very happy and now I can read it to my grandson and to the children in my class . It gives the children a view on how one should not judge people by appearances only!
