12-yr-old loves this series
My 12-yr-old nephew absolutely loves this math quest series. He has read all of the books in this series several times and continues to ask me if any new ones will come out. He loves reading, but these truly have been his favorite. I hope the author writes more of these. Great books!

Misprint
I tried reading through this book with my kids only to discover that there was a rather large printing error. Pages 17 through 32 are from a different book and thus don't align with the rest of the story. I checked out a copy of this book from the library and compared the two. The pictures show where the different pages begin and end as compared to the correct (library) printing. The incorrect pages ar also set apart with a purple border whereas the rest of the book has a greenish gray border. Very frustrating and disappointing.

Great for encouraging young budding mathematicians as well as the hesitant ones.
These books are so much fun! And that is coming from someone who hates math! I taught fifth grade and even then teaching math was my least favorite part of the day. I did my best to make it fun with activities because I learned that when I did the children were more involved and keen to learn. (Not to mention I enjoyed it more as well!) This book embraces that philosophy. It combines math with choose your own adventure stories! Remember those books and how much fun it was to choose what you wanted to have happen next and then turn to the page directed with your choice to read the outcome? This is the same idea, only instead of choosing what you want to happen in the story based on a whim you are on a mission, in this case to find a hidden treasure, and you run across puzzles that need to be solved in order to do so.Each puzzle is a simple math problem with two possible answers listed. You choose an answer after solving the problem then head to the page directed where you are greeted with another problem to solve and so on and so forth. If you make the wrong choice, no worries! The outcome will tell you it was incorrect, often with a little explanation as to why you likely were, then send you back the right path. The story is simple and appealing with enough mystery and fun to keep readers wanting to go further and further until they solve the adventure. I highly recommend this book for budding young mathematicians as well as the hesitant ones. *I received this book in exchange for an honest opinion, which this is.

A fun family adventure.
This is one book that will be on my shelf for years and will be enjoyed with each kid. A fun family adventure. We started this adventure when my son was an older 7, the puzzles were fun and pleasantly challenging. Somehow we misplaced the book and not a month went by without my kiddo mentioning that we should finish our quest! Thankfully I found it again and we restarted it tonight. My son is now an older 8 and the problems are a little easier but absolutely enjoyable. We are including my older 5yo in the adventure and he is able to help solve some of the problems but definitely needs big brother or mom to lead him to the answers.

My kids loved it!
I think this is my first time writing an Amazon review! My kids loved this book so much! Even my "reluctant learner!" My 9 yr old son and 10 yr old daughter read this book together. They took turns reading and worked together to figure out the solutions. My 9 yr old reluctant learner said he especially liked how the story had some adventure in it and it was "jumbled up." He just said, "...it's probably my favorite book of all time." I would highly recommend getting this book. I am just disappointed that I didn't get the whole series! The rest are definitely on my wishlist and I plan to get them soon!

My maths mad 6 year old loved this.
My 6 year old son loved this and did it all in one go (it took him about an hour - much longer than he's usually engaged without adult help!).The questions are fairly quick and involve very basic fractions, percentages, addition, factors, multiplies and number awareness. So for example one of the questions gives the year in which four swords were made (e.g. 1021, 1101, 1034, 1023) and you have to choose which sword is oldest. Another has a list of numbers (2, 4, 9, 16, 25, 32, 36) and you have to decide which is not a square number. In another you have to find from a list of numbers which is a multiple of 5, factor of 100 and even number. If you get an answer wrong you're taken to a page which will explain why it was wrong and how to do the question correctly. The questions fit quite neatly into the story and the illustrations are great too.

Great book!
I bought this for my 8 year old. He had been reading them at school and got completely obsessed with the. Having an interactive story that the reader can influence, such a good, original idea. He loves them. It's a pity that can only get them online, as I think most keen readers would love this series.

Great engaging maths book
Sat down with my 9 year old and two hours later, still reading it! She just had to get to the end!You don't read it in page order, but jump to different pages depending on your answer. It's great for problem solving and using maths skills with an engaging story.Just be prepared to spend a whole morning or afternoon with this when you start. She's now asked for another book in the series. Says it all!

Would definitely recommend.
I struggle with my little boy doing any maths homework so needed something to engage him without him knowing he was actually doing maths. This certainly did the trick. I'm now looking for similar books as once he started this it really was difficult to get him to put the book down. Would definitely recommend.
