Do not buy!
I should have listened to the other reviews, unfortunately, I did not! While it fit's perfectly, it has a vignette effect that reminds of a porthole ona ship. I even tried it for macro flower shots, it's just not working. Total waste of money!!!

Works with drawbacks
This is a five star item in that it allows me to use filters with my Coolpix P510. It's a three star because it can only be used with the zoom function--otherwise there is a tunnel effect on pictures. Yes, the adapter can be modified for wide angle and normal photos but it reduces all spontaneity of changing the zoom degree, which is why the P510 is so desirable!

Almost perfect - recommended
I recently purchased the Nikon "Coolpix" P510 camera. I knew in advance that it doesn't accept filters (even though it looks like there are threads), so immediately started checking for an adapter. I found the Kiwifoto adapter and felt that it should really fit the bill. And, for the most part, it does. The adapter seems to be well built, made of light-weight metal with what appears to be a flat black, anodized finish inside and out. I was very pleased to see that it was coated inside to prevent reflections from interfering with your photos. The adapter slips on over the outer lens housing and is snugged down with 2 set screws tightened with the included hex key. Fortunately the designer had the foresight to put a strip of a felt-like material around the part that slips over the housing - this protects the camera from any damage from putting on and removing the adapter or from the set-screws. (the adapter fits snugly enough that if one left the set screws slightly loose, one could slip it on for a quick single shot - but you don't want to leave it on the camera unless the set-screws are tightened. The filter-mounting threads are cut exactly right and all my filters fit perfectly. There is only one thing wrong with it. Because it has to be long enough for the lens of the Coolpix P510 to fully extend, it is so long that it interferes with the field of view when the lens is at a wide-angle setting. When you are "zoomed-out" to full wide-angle, there is a black circle around the view, restricting the field of view. However, once you zoom in about 1/4 of the way, you get past this vignetting. This becomes a major issue if you want to photograph a landscape using a polarizer filter - one will probably have to hold the filter by hand without the adapter (which can be done). On the other hand, this adapter works perfectly with my set of macro lenses since I use this with the lens zoomed in.All-in-all, this adapter is almost perfect. It holds the filters I want to use, especially the macro lenses. It is well built and fairly easy to use and light-weight. Due to the necessary dimensions, it is a little bulky, so you can't just slip it in a pocket - though it should fit in a fanny-pack or camera bag very easily. I can freely recommend this adapter to any owners of the Nikon Coolpix P510 who want to add filters to their cameras, just remember that it can't be used for full wide-angle shots.

This lens adapter works extremely well.
I'm so glad I bought this lens adapter for my Nikon P510. Without it, I would not have been able to affix a whole range of different filters and macro lenses.Extremely well built, the lens adapter can be permanently mounted to my Nikon. If need be, to prevent vignetting if you are not in full zoom, the lens adapter can be unscrewed approximately in half.

Great option for using filters with Nikon COOLPIX P510!
Ditto to J. Ellison's review on 14 Oct 2012. This is a very nicely made adapter tube and a great option for using filters with the Nikon P510 camera. The only reason I did not give it five stars is because the tube cannot be used when taking a wide angled "landscape" shot...but as J.Ellison mentioned, you can hold the filter in front of the lens. I also purchased the Tiffen 67mm Photo Essentials kit and all three filters work perfectly with the adapter tube.

Exactly what I wanted
I am still learning to use this but I am happy with it.My biggest problem was getting the right one.I ended up ordering from 3 different places on amazon. I got 3 different extensions & this was the only one that fit . Stick with KiWi It was complicated I am disabled & I got sick & was unable to see about returning the others but I was very unhappy & can't afford to throw away $ but luckily I ordered from here & this one came & it fit. I have used it only once because of my health but I think it will be a lot of fun & I will really enjoy being able to use filters.I shoot wildlife & I am very excited about this extension. This came like it said & fit my P510 the others said they fit the P510 but fit the P500 which makes the extensions to small to fit the P510. Thank you . I love this

WHY COULDN'T NIKON DO THIS?
The ability to mount filters on a camera is basic to a camera's operation. All it requires is threads on the lens hood. BUT NO! We have to buy additional equipment to do this because Nikon doesn't provide it. Fortunately this adapter does the job. I don't like paying extra for what should have been already built in. And Nikon should realize that a lot of sales are lost because of the lack of this feature. I've seen that comment repeatedly in reviews and evaluations. But if you want that beautiful blue sky with the white puffy clouds and no glare then a polarizing filter is a must. Here's the device that will allow you to mount it. Razzies to Nikon.

pros and cons
I was very excited with this came in the mail. It was well packaged, though the only frustrating part was that my mail lady stuffed it in the mailbox with it obviously didn't fit. It's light and comes with everything you need. And to be honest, this product is very opinion based because there as pros and cons.PROS--°allows you to add filters°gives your camera that 'professional' look°fits snugly°is durableCONS--°has a vignette ring around the picture until you zoom into a certain point°the filters don't have as good an effect as it would have on an actual lense°can limit your photo space
