Product Description Budding Poirots and wannabe Sherlock Holmes will love every minute of hosting an evening of whodunnit entertainment with Inspector McClue's The Monte-Carlo Murders. The gripping story is set amidst the glitz and glamour of Monte-Carlo in 1951, as Europe recovers from the Second World War... but there's foul play afoot. When the body of a beautiful young woman is found on a private beach which can only be reached through the palace of Prince Reynard, suspicion falls on him and his glamorous house guests. Who is this mysterious woman? Why would anyone want to kill her? And what is her connection with the shadowy sisterhood of Sibyl? The anticipation, mystery and excitement begins before guests have even arrived as each of the six guests, or suspects, will receive their invite and suggestions for suitable dress which begins setting the scene for the forthcoming crime - and by the end of the evening, one of the guests will be exposed as a killer! The suspects include Prince Reynard, the most eligible bachelor in Europe, Princess Peacock, the distant cousin of Prince Reynard and the last survivor of an obscure family of Bavarian royalty and Colonel Jock Strapp, a Scottish soldier who won a Victoria Cross on D-Day and never returned home. Hosts get a helping hand too with recipes, music and decorating tips along with a party planner, booklets on the characters, their roles and a few tasty secrets. Very good night, with a few minor snags here and there
I really liked this Murder Mystery set with Hercule McClue in Monte-Carlo. It was enthralling and everyone understood everything. I think a high was the fact that everybody thought the murderer knew who they were, but in fact he/she was only told in the facts not to reveal before the end. I think that the makers should have extended the mystery until after the dessert, because after the murderer was revealed, everybody fell away and some people even left before dessert. Lord Lummy wasn't there, and I think he had slightly too big a role, though I appreciate he might feel slightly left out if he was there.Overall, I would give it 9/10, but as the rating is out of 5, I feel I can't give the Monte-Carlo Murder Mystery Set a 5/5.Aged 12

Best served with wine
With these games you really get out what you put in. Only do it with friends who you know are going to commit to the whole idea. I've done a few from this series and I probably enjoyed this one the most. However in retrospect that was purely down to what those present brought to the characters, which often differed wildly from the recommended character notes. This one does have some quite irritating plot holes and the 2 extra characters really are superfluous, as such may actually work better with 6 than 8. You will almost certainly have a good time with this set but I wouldn't recommend it as the first in the series to get.

Duplicate Character book = One very unhappy party guest
Really upset to have to write this but the Character booklet for 'Lord Lummy' was a exact duplicate of 'Prince Reynards' and as you cant open these till the night I had no idea, so had a poor guest who had nothing to do as no information on the character and that is a very difficult situation to deal with as a host. Can only assume this will be the case with all copies of this murder mystery. The mystery itself is very good so if you only have 7 players and can leave Lord Lummy out due to the dud character booklet then it will work fine.Unable to contact seller for a refund/return as past date has gone (couldnt open the booklet to the evening of the event and everything else was fine so assumed the character booklets would be too)So wont be ordering another one of these anytime soon as too unpredictable and don't want to have to check the character booklets before the evening as that ruins the fun.

Character booklet contained dialogue for a different character!
Received item fine and checked the box for all the contents. However, when we came to play the game it transpired that the booklet for Lord Lummy contained the dialogue for one of the other characters so not only did our "Lord Lummy" know all the secrets of that other character, he had no idea about himself. I would like to get a refund but can't see how to get this from Amazon. Help would be appreciated.

NO LORD LUMMY FOR ME
I'm yet to actually play the game, but having read the reviews on here I had a quick look at the Lord Lummy booklet and immediately realised it was the Prince Reynard booklet in the Lord Lummy cover. So annoying! 8 people cannot play this game. And Lord Lummy seemed like he was going to be a really amusing character! Paul Lamond - please send me the Lord Lummy booklet in the post? V upset

Replica characters
Really good game but the Lord Lummy character was exact replica of Prince Reynard! This is a common problem I read from other reviews. Unable to contact seller as 1 day out of return date, but bought for daughters birthday and only found out when 8 14yr olds played it. Such a shame.
