This is one of my favorite procucts and it's worth the purchase, so good for sensitive skin and damaged skin barriers that need help. This has become a must in my skincare routine and just a few little pumps of procucts goes a long way so it lasts a good while :)

The scent is not good.

The Nue Co Barrier Moisturizer comes in a vanity-pretty, slim 1.6oz brown glass and plastic pump and retails for $65 as of this writing. While the overall aesthetic of the bottle is pretty, the pump is not great. It takes effort to get enough product out.Two-three suggested pumps are enough to coat the face and neck evenly. It can be applied AM and PM and pairs well with other skincare; no pilling or flaking.For reference, I have mature, sensitive, combination/congestion-prone skin.While lovely, I think that is a hint expensive for something I would consider a ubiquitously formulated, lightweight face lotion. It has niacinamide, squalane, ceramides, fermented ingredients (which are great for skin), peptides, and is colorless and odorless, as far as I can tell. But nothing about this, to me, warrants such an expensive price point for a tiny bottle. There are countless creams on the market with similar ingredients.Yes, it has skin-friendly formula without filler (e.g., no astringents or essential oils). Yes, it is suitable for all skin types (sensitive, combo, acne-prone). Maybe not emollient enough for dry skin, but worth a try. The white lotion is not heavy, greasy, tacky, or sticky. Good spreadability and absorption; semi-matte finish. It may sound like I don't like this moisturizer, but I do. It does not have added fragrances and colorants, is mild and hydrating, and is rich with skin-suitable, fermented pre/probiotics. But this is just a moisturizer. A good one doesn't need to be so expensive.***I also had the opportunity to use the companion wash. It too comes in a glass and plastic pump, this one retailing for ~$42 as of this review. It is a thick clear gel, near odorless (to me), and creates a very dense low cleansing foam. Rinses clean without residue, dryness, or irritation. No flares or breakouts with use. I like this as an everyday AM cleanser. This gel wash is fine for PM use too, but only after I've used my oil-balm to break down my SPF and makeup (using this cleanser as my second step). This cleanser, while good, is not robust enough on its own to do that. Most water-based washes are going to struggle with water-resistant sunscreens and waterproof mascara, for example. Ideal for sensitive skin; suitable for all skin types. While the overall aesthetic of the bottle is pretty, the pump is not great. It takes effort to get enough product out.

I live in a hot and humid climate. I also have dry to combo mature, sensitive skin. I absolutely have to have plenty of moisturizer on. My problem always arises when I have to be outside. I sweat everything out/off and end up having greasy sweat on my face which I blot off but then my skin feels dry. Yes, even in the humidity. This moisturizer from Nue Co is lightweight and absorbs into my skin really well. Best of all, when I start getting sweaty, it's not greasy feeling- so the product isn't lifting out of my skin with the perspiration and doesn't feel dry after I blot. There are tons of great ingredients in this moisturizer, but they don't do any good if they don't absorb into my skin before I start getting sweaty.This moisturizer has been gentle on my skin but I've gotten a bit of a slight bumpy texture along my jawline since I've been using it, so I might be sensitive to something in the moisturizer or it's something unrelated. I like this The Nue Co. Barrier Culture moisturizer, but I dislike the packaging. It's a lotion that is opaque white in color, very lightweight in texture, absorbs quickly and doesn't leave a residue. It has a soothing effect and doesn't contain potentially irritating ingredients like fragrance, essential oils, or drying alcohols.The pump bottle and cap might have an elegant silhouette but it is very annoying to use. The pump mechanism takes forever to get started, and in my opinion it doesn't dispense enough product at once and takes some effort to use. it also doesn't dispense cleanly and has a tendency to dribble. I would have preferred a tube, which would be easier to use and more portable as well. I was tempted to take a star off for the packaging but refrained because I like the ingredients.The packaging and marketing highlight prebiotics/probiotics/postbiotics. Despite the skepticism of some of the other reviewers, there are actually a number of clinical studies by scientists that show that ferments and prebiotics that are applied topically do have a positive effect on the skin microbiome. Skincare products often make big claims but in the case of topical probiotics and prebiotics, it's not pseudoscience to say that they have positive effects on skin.The ingredients contain Lactobacillus Ferment and inulin for strengthening the skin microbiome, niacinamide for brightening, centella asiatica, calendula and chamomile for soothing, creatine, ceramides and peptides for strengthening the skin barrier, squalane and several kinds of hyaluronic acid for moisture retention, and ceramides for strengthening the skin barrier.Potential drawbacks will depend on whether you have sensitive or acne-prone skin. It contains olive oil, which can irritate sensitive skin, but it's further down on the ingredients list. It also contains shea butter and fatty alcohols, which can sometimes occlude pores and exacerbate breakouts in acne-prone skin.The ingredients are printed on the outer box.
