Explains death / heaven to littles in an uplifting way
I ended up buying this book for my 4 year old after having to put down our family dog and not really knowing how to explain it to her. It explains death and heaven in an uplifting and hopeful way with a few laughs thrown in. It was very emotional for me to read the first time through, but it really seemed to register with her. I read her the book first, and then told her that Chloe had to go to the rainbow bridge because she was very sick. She asked a few questions, but she seemed to grasp that there was some finality to this concept. I highly recommend the read if you find yourself in a similar situation.

For love of a pet
This was good for the youngest grandkids when their older dog had to be put down. It was good for Mom too. We never forget them and when I cross the bridge there will be someone waiting for me as I complete my journey home.

Helpful when explaining to children about the death of a pet
Our 14.5 year old dog was sick anf my wife and I unfortunately had to make the difficult decision to put her down. It was rough for us to say the least. Explaining it to our two young (7 & 11) children was a challenge. This book although very sad to read during this time, really helped put things in perspective for them, it helped open up the conversation in a positive way. Sure it also created lots of questions that were difficult to answer, but it allowed us to talk about it more freely as a family. If you find yourself in a similar situation (my heart sincerely goes out to you) consider this book, its an easy enough book to read (we sat as a family and my wife read it aloud) Like I said there maybe some additional questions but it also opens up the conversation in a way that may help a child understand why. Hope this helps.

A beautiful children's book, which all animal lovers young and old will love.
As a lifelong animal lover who has had both dogs and cats for pets for most of my life when I saw this 32 page children’s book (The Rainbow Bridge: A visit to pet paradise by Adrian Raeside) on Amazon I decided to purchase it. I was familiar with the Rainbow Bridge Poem which apparently is claimed to be written by a number of people such as Edna Clyne-Reky from Scotland, Paul C. Dahm (1981 poem and wrote book 1998), William N. Britton wrote legend of Rainbow Bridge, and Wallace Sife. This wonderful little book is about a seven year old boy named Rick and his beloved dog Koko. When Koko Passes on to the Rainbow Bridge, Rick is devastated and gets an opportunity to visit his dog Koko at the Rainbow Bridge. This is a cute story every animal lover young or old will take delight in reading. Indeed, we believe all the loved pets in our life will meet together at the Rainbow Bridge when we pass on from this world to the great beyond cosmos and parallel worlds. If you are an animal lover you may want to check out this children’s book that both children and adults will enjoy reading.Rating: 5 Stars. Joseph J. Truncale (Author: Zen Poetry Moments: Haiku and Senryu for special occasions).

Appropriate for children 5 or older
I bought this for my 3 year old and it was way too complicated for her to understand. Additionally, I don’t think books to teach the concept of death or saying goodbye to a pet should end with the child getting a new dog.

This has really helped a friend and her young children when their dog passed
This is a book that I was looking for to help a friend of mine in her small children. It’s written on a level that their parents could read it and then read it to them. I’m very impressed being a former counselor that this was so helpful to them.

Beautiful book to help children
I reviewed this book for a book I was writing: Tessie's Tears-Corkie the Rescue Puppy. I found it to be helpful.

Mentions that people also die and getting a new dog
This is a lovely book, well written and illustrated about the Rainbow Bridge, where pets go to wait until they are reunited with their humans and go to heaven. It has no mention of heaven or religion, which will suit many families. However, be aware that the book does say that people also die and shows two old people being reunited with their pets, so not one to read to children who don't yet know that everyone will die, including them. It also ends with the boy getting another dog, which you might not want to introduce if you don't intend to get another.

Great pictures but not great ending
We brought this for our nearly 5 year old after the loss of our family dog. There are some great pictures and its well written but it ends with them replacing the old dog with a puppy on christmas morning...now my daughter thinks we can get a new dog. Cheers!

Pre-owned despite buying new
Bought this book after our family pet passed on, and wanted something to explain everything to the kids. Sadly the book came in very poor condition with nearly every page bent. Crayon marks throughout makes me think its second hand despite buying brand new?

Wasnt Thrilled with this book
didnt like this book , thought it was far too wordy and went into far too much IMHO for a five year old and three year old. Ended up buying another book called "up in heaven" which suited us much more and was a nicer story which helped the girls after loosing their cat

This book was a very important purchase to use in a classroom setting for children experiencing the death of a pet.
