A great item to have.
Had to replace my old smoke alarms and these were the ones I bought, easy to install, instructions come with them, and they do the Job well.

Easy like-for-like replacement for 15-y-o ones!
Bought 2 of these to replace the same model that were fitted in the house when built - as they are now 15 years old and had yellowed (shown up somewhat by newly painted ceilings!). The old ones were still working fine, proven frequently when anything thicker than normal went in the toaster, but as these things should be replaced, it was high time.Plenty of screw holes in the base makes fitting a doddle - although I stuck with the original ones and just re-attached into the existing plugs in the ceiling. Cable routing is simplicity itself, with live, neutral and inter-connect terminals in the main connection block and the chassis earth nearby. With the power back on, both units gave a green light for mains feed, and the test button confirmed that the inter-connect circuit was functional. 2 new smoke detectors fitted & working in under 30 mins.All-in-all a quality product that is easy to fit. Free back-up batteries included too.

When Smokie Sings --- RUN
Shame I can't say too much about this product because this is at its best when it does nothing. It has been quiet and does not get activated when I overcook my steak - filling the entire house with smoke. Fitted perfectly to replace my ageing appliance and so far I can't fault it. The tests run fine and it was blinking as expected last time I looked. Wait a sec - it has been awhile!

Mains powered
Best mains powered smoke alarm according to Which, but very expensive. Needed to replace a connected alarm and this fitted the bill, was easy to fit and was a best buy, but it is so expensive, as I now need to change the other 2 in my house. Not had it long enough to know what the battery life is, but as it runs on the mains, they should last a very long time.

Easy to replace. Proven to be reliable in the past
I bought this alarm to replace the same model that was installed when I moved into the house - almost 15 years ago. The old one was working just fine and never had any problems. However, it's generally recommended to replace mains smoke alarms within 10 years of installation. The new alarm slides easily onto the existing head, with the help of a screwdriver to press down the retaining button.I also bought the Aico Optical alarm at the same time - It's advised to fit both optical and ionisation type alarms in the same property. This again is a standard fit to the Aico head that was already fitted, so another really easy upgrade. The two alarms sound together if one is triggered. All works well so far and hopefully, based on past experience, will be trouble free for the duration of its service.

Mains connection with 9 volt battery backup
This controls the three Aico units that I have installed in my household. I replaced the original one I had installed as it was time expired. The life of these units is 10 years according to the attached label.A word of warning though. They are sensitive and do their job.

It was great that you can still buy the same model.
We have a detector for smoke in our hall (bungalow) and another for heat in our kitchen. Same make and models with a replacement date of 10 years. I bought this to replace the existing alarm when replacement was due. No need to change the mounting plate. I just popped the old one off and popped the new one on. Easy. Sorted for another 10 years. Good quality, mains powered with battery backup. We have had occasions where smoky cooking or blasts of heat from opening a very hot oven has set them off so we know they do they're job. Both alarms sound when one is triggered. Easily silenced with a ten minute reset. Very pleased.

Replacement smoke alarm
Purchased this hard-wired smoke alarm as a like-for-like replacement for one that was near the end of its life and showing the signs of old age. It comes as a whole unit - mounting plate, detector, back-up battery. It comes with instructions with how to install the whole set-up and to replace the detector. It is straight forward to replace and to test it to check it works - I personally did not replace this myself as it turns out I am not tall enough to reach my ceiling unless I fancied an accident with a step-ladder but I did witness my friend set it up for me and it took him about two minutes once he had read and understood the instructions. However, if you are in doubt about setting this yourself, do get a electrician in to look at it for you - it is never too expensive to ensure your home is protected in the event of a fire. Would I have purchased this particular make and model if I did not already have the fixings in place for this? Difficult to say, but a smoke alarm is a must for your home at the end of the day. It's good to have some peace of mind for the next 10 or so years (and some quiet from the new battery!)
