How to Think Like a Behavior Analyst: Understanding the Science That Can Change Your Life

It is rare when a book serves so many purposes so wonderfully! Such is the case with "How to Think Like a Behavior Analyst." New students in the field of ABA, parents of children with autism, and new professionals in ABA can get a much needed perspective about what characterizes the field, how it is viewed in the popular media, where it stands within academia, and more. College professors now have another very valuable tool to use in their classes on ABA. Applied Behavior Analysts now have another resource to give to their clients. Written in a very interesting but easy to understand style, "How to Think Like a Behavior Analyst" should be on the bookshelf of anyone interested in behavior change. We owe a great deal of thanks to Bailey and Burch.

I am so glad I ordered this book. It is very easy to understand and very helpful to me as a new behavior analyst student. The seller even left a note on my receipt stating if I had any questions to reach out. This was a perfect buy!!

This book was suggested by a BCBA, since I am now taking classes toward my certification. I have to say that this was a great book. It was very easy to read. It made me want to study the field of behavior analysis even more.

This book is a set of questions and answers that explain the work and approaches that make up applied behavior therapy. It is a good way to get an overview for someone considering studying ABA or working with someone providing ABA services. It is a quick read and most of the information is up to date. The exception is a disappointing chapter that addresses topics like serious mental illness and other areas of psychology. Surprisingly in that chapter the authors abandon the skeptism they advocate and drink the cool aid of the medical model of SMI.

Great book! Easy to read

I have just read a book that brings the science of applied behavior analysis to everyone in all walks of their life. No more confusing and difficult to recall scientific terms to memorize. Applications of the science to common problems with kids, spouses, bosses, etc. are notable. Parents, teachers, supervisors - keep it as a desk reference.

I actually train dog behavior but when reading this book, I just inserted the word dog instead of person and it works great. Try it, you'll see. The authors have a good view of behavior and its affects.

I like this book. However, I feel the content is too simple and I'm sorry I bought it. I'm not qualified in ABA or perhaps as knowledgeable in the area as some of the other reviewers here. I had hoped this book would give me some insight. It is still a nice read and I keep it on the book stand in the bathroom along with my National Geographics. Take to the web and do some research on behaviour analysis and you will find more info than this book contains. I think its market is aimed at parents who 'want to think like a behaviour analyst'. These parents will be let down. I bought this book on the strength of the other reviews. Maybe my view is skewed... I can't verify that, but I do know one thing. This was one of my most regrettable purchases on the subject of ABA.

I agree with Cormac English and his review. I think this book is oversimplified and does not really offer an insight. Most of the things it describes can be concluded without being an expert, just a little bit more observant than the average person.

It took just over two weeks for the book to be delivered to me- I almost wanted to cancel my order. The book however is also in excellent condition. It is a great book (very easy read).
