International Political Economy (5th Edition)

This is a good book, I had to rent it for my econ class and have found it to be very helpful. Oatley doesn't really use difficult terms or language and tries to make everything as simple as possible. At times I have found the book to be one-sided so you should be careful of that, but I think it is a good book for beginners to economics. You should also be happy that your professor chose such an easy-to-understand book as your textbook.

While the book is very informative on issues of trade and political economy theory, it is deeply lacking in the area of international monetary markets. The book's explanation of the collapse of Bretton Woods, while correct in the general points, is so convoluted that I disregarded it completely in favor of my macroeconomics textbook. Deficits and surpluses in the balance of payments overall is used interchangeably with the imbalances in specific accounts such that it is nearly impossible to keep track of what the author is trying to say. The book does a good job of uniting economics with political science but readers would do well to seek a rigorous understanding of the actual economics elsewhere and simply accept facts concerning economics in the book at face value.

This book was to be in good condition. It is not even passable for poor. Seller needs to reevaluate what he thinks is good.
