Properties: Citronella essential oil is extracted from a grass through the process of steam distillation, using either fresh or dried chopped grass. The oil has a sweet and slightly lemony scent, is yellowy brown in colour and has a refreshing and cleansing nature. Main Uses: Citronella is renowned for its ability to repel insects and as such it is often found as the main if not the only fragrant ingredient in insect repellent candles, sprays and natural flea treatments. Another effective method of using the oil as an insect repellent is by simply pouring a few drops onto a cloth or burning it in a diffuser. In skincare, Citronella is believed to help cleanse and clear oily skin and to prevent excessive perspiration. In aromatherapy, Citronella oil is used to ease fatigue, tension and headaches.
