Simple, yet beautiful.
It was an eyeopener. His view on simplicity and design reflects in his lifetime of work and achievements. He was a true designer.

Nice and short book
It’s a nice book, with a compendium of advices on what design means and what a designer needs to think when doing it.However, I would have preferred a bit more of examples descriptions and a bit more of content.

an important book, available again
Finally this important book is back in print! The ideas expressed by Rand are timeless. All designers, and especially design students, can gain a renewed focus on who we are as designers, our role in the culture, the importance of our task, and that it be done with integrity, skill and quality. It's a refreshingly clear essay, easy to read, illustrated with Rands own classic works of design. The comment here about the book being poorly produced is not true, as far as my copy of the book. That person probably just got a bad print.

Back In Print! ... Could Be Better
I'm glad Chronicle decided to re-release this long out-of-print book by Rand. The book jacket states that the book was reprinted to match the original copy...but I do think it could have been improved upon. Specifically, the black and white printing doesn't truly showcase Rand's design work and illustrations. His playful use of color comes across as muddy in black and white.Rand's thoughts are short and succinct (I finished reading in under an hour). I could see many designers grabbing a copy of this just to have in their library. It's a shame it couldn't come in a nice linen hardcover to be a little more substantial. The book itself feels cheap and flimsy. But overall, worth collecting if you're a fan of Paul Rand.

Great book
This is a great book for reference of practices in graphic design. I have read it before, but could not clearly grasp the meaning till after I have had more practice in the field.

A great intro in 100 pages
A lot of books stretch on for pages before winding down to a single good idea. Paul Rand does the opposite - A lot of wonderful ideas within 100 pages. Must read intro for a designer or anyone interested in design

Good content, no question, BUT poorly digitalized (in black and white)
I was very happy to get a affordable copy for my digital devices of Paul Rand's book, but I'd expected the images to be at least in color and not black and white. It's a sort of a joke if you read a note under a black/white image like "Magazine cover red and green 1939".But ok, maybe it's ok as teaser to buy the "real" printed hardcover version.
