Archie comics for grown-ups (those in their second childhoods, anyway)
This volume collects issues #18-22 of the All New All Now Archie series, as well as a 24-page preview of the forthcoming “Archies” title (yes, fellow 60-year-olds, those Archies).I didn’t read Archie comics when I was a child, as I was a superhero fan, and a fan particularly of full-length stories with continuing characters and preferably with continuing storylines, which meant that I moved from DC exclusively to Marvel as soon as there were enough of their titles to absorb all my pocket money (though mention must, as always, be made of the exceptional Tower Comics). Now, 50 years later, Archie Comics have decided that they want me as a reader, and set Mark Waid the task of capturing me. Well, putting Mark Waid’s name on the cover was enough, to be honest, then they put North and Zdarsky’s names on Jughead just to make me squirm.Anyway, this is a superb title (as if it’s sibling title, Jughead). If you enjoy comics, then read these titles. They are still Archie comics, with lots of short pieces, but due to the advances in comic-writing science, those short pieces frequently add up to a longer story without you even noticing until it is too late (and you still get superhero stories over in Jughead!).
