I picked up this server to use as a dedicated media server, and overall, I’ve been really impressed with its quality and performance for the price. The build feels solid, it runs reliably, and for my needs, it’s been a great way to centralize my growing media library. That said, one important detail to be aware of is the processor. While it handles basic tasks without issue, it does struggle with transcoding in most scenarios. If you’re planning on streaming a lot of high-bitrate content or serving multiple devices at once, you’ll likely hit its limitations pretty quickly. In my case, I’ve found that it can handle a single 1080p stream fairly well. Direct play works perfectly, and it manages light transcoding if needed, but anything beyond that starts to push it too far. My ultimate plan is to pair this with a small, dedicated mini PC that can handle transcoding duties while letting this server focus exclusively on storage. Even with this limitation, I still think it’s a fantastic value, especially if you primarily direct play your media or are looking for a reliable storage solution. For anyone building a home media setup on a budget, this server offers a lot of flexibility and stability. As long as you understand its limitations and plan around them, it’s a highly recommended option for consolidating and managing your media library.

Owned a QNAP since 2011, worked like a charm, but needed an upgrade to increase capacity. The product is fantastic, lightning fast, endless list of features and capabilities. very quiet. future proof with lots of upgrade options. Very Happy!

Convenient that this is offered as a bundle with HDDs already installed in a RAID5 configuration. When embarking upon setup, however, be prepared for a 12 hour wait before populating the array with data, as the NAS has to sync all of the drives in order to creaater the RAID5 volume. It sort of detracts from the advantage of buying a "pre-configured RAID5 array." Everything else is what I was expecting from QNAP. This is my second QNAP NAS and the other one has run flawlessly for 15 years! Both my older one and the new one are a bit noisy, so if you are planning to install this in a home set-up you will want to put it someplace remote and isolated from living and sleeping spaces. It isn't QNAP's fault, it is the noise to be expected from 4 HDD's operating in a metal chassis. Go ahead and price four 8TB solid state drives and you will find yourself satisfied with older platter technology. ;)

This NAS has been my primary backup for the last year. It has been amazing and I'd highly recommend! Love the interface, as it's easy to use for a novice like myself. I initially only used two bays with 24TB drives each, but very recently bought two more drives (also 24TB each) to have two different RAID setups. Loved how plug and play it all was!

It was delivered as stated. All four drives were formatted, configured as RAID 5, and ready to go. After a small amount of setup using the QNAP software, I was ready to start copying my files onto their different partitions. I added a bit more memory to it and that was very easy to do. I’m satisfied with the transfer speed and the noise level is pretty low, quiet drives.

Es un excelente equipo NAS, ademas llego perfectamente empacado y nuevo. Las características del equipo y la licencia de CCTV incluida hacen que tenga muchas funcionalidades. Agregarle una cache SSD, un TPU y un RAM serán de muchísimo provecho. Lo recomiendo mucho!

This unit is perfect for my digital storage. 6 bays for HDD and two bays for SSDs. 2.5gbps network adapters make it fast across my home network. Running qnap container station allows for numerous network utilities such as pihole to keep my home network free of ads. Make sure to have it hooked up to a UPS to protect it from any spikes/outage in the power. This will help protect the device and the data.

I have been researching for weeks to make certain this one in fact has two memory slots in the machine. To my surprise, they used one piece of 8G memory in one of the slots. I confirmed with QNAP that only older model had memory soldered on.
