WD 2 TB My Passport for Mac Portable Hard Drive

I like using these external drives as a backup and archive for my Mac and PC. It is best though, to keep a dedicated WD passport to be used with Time Machine. Also Time Machine does try to back up to one of my other drives, you just need to say no to it, but you do need to re-select Passport again afterwards re-intiate automatic backups. Backup is easy, you just plug the Passport into the Mac and wait. What could be simpler. But always allow backup to complete before doing anything else.The Passports works well with my PC laptop too, when I render films to them. I do keep my Mac and PC drives separate though. I use USB memory sticks to pass files between my PC and Mac.I do stress, I buy the right format Passport drive for my Mac or PC.One most important golden rule; always eject the drive with the computers software before disconnecting. If the drive won't eject, turning off the computer has always worked for me.Over all I well satisfied with the WD Passport drives, and so far have five of them for different purposes and will buy more of them in the future.

Small, lightweight, compact, perfect for carrying back and forth to uni. Great memory size and backup is a weight lifted off my shoulders as there's much less worry about losing anything. I use with my mac and it's very fast. Also one of the best prices I can find - definitely go with something like this rather than a cheaper option, it may seem pricey but its reliable and are ten-fold less likely to lose any of your work/files!!

Thanks to all previous buyers who kindly answered my question about the power source for this external hard drive.As the last time I bought a terrabyte hard drive was in 2009 I was pleasantly surprised how compact this WD is. It arrived well packed, a day earlier than anticipated and is now functioning as expected, as my iMac Time Machine backup, replacement. Plug it in --- off it went. First download about four hours, but after this it will be just topping up. Simplicity itself. And quiet. Looks like a very satisfactory piece of kit, but as with all these things, time will tell.

Initial review in 2017: it was so easy to set up. in fact there ws nothing I had to do except plug in the USB cable to my Apple iMac and the portable hard drive. Allowing Time Machine to go to work was also effortless and good to see working smoothly for the first back-up. I have one concern. The USB connecting the HDD does not fully push into the socket and is at a slightly downward angle as though it has been bent.5 years later: it stopped working! The backing up procedure was with Time Machine and start working and continued for 5 years. Could I expect a longer life, I don't know. The previous WD device (the exact same model) lasted just over 12 months and I wasn't so pleased about that. So in 6 years I've had two of these; maybe I will look at other storage devices and research some more before buying this again.

Hooked this up to an IMac via a USB 2 port (even though the USB port on the drive is USB 3, it is backward compatible with USB 2) and it worked perfectly right out of the box. There's a single LED showing drive activity which is located at the back of the drive where you cannot see it. Hmm! Somebody didn't think that through did they. I cannot comment of the speed of the drive when it is connected to a USB 3 port on a Mac since I have it connected to a USB 2 port. What I can say is that copying about 1.8TB of files onto it took about 20 hours. As a backup drive it's superb and it is also pretty quiet. Thoroughly recommended.

This WD 1TB portable hard drive is fantastic and easy to use as mentioned in the product bescription. Just plug it in and backup is automatic. I’ve backed up my entire MacBook Pro approximately 625GB in roughly1min. It backed up so quickly that I didn’t get to time it properly but I know it couldn’t be over 1mn. The price is fantastic too compared to others of the same capacity. WD is a top brand product so you’re purchasing top quality. I do hope that my review will help others to purchase this product with confidence.

I use this as an Apple Time Machine backup drive. It connects via a USB3 port and transferred 67gb in approx 30 mins. I have ran a few backups since and so far it is working perfectly.It took all of 30 seconds to connect it to the Macbook Pro and the drive to be recognized.I love the portability and the speed of use

Really good hard drive had good performance write speeds. It's a lot smaller than expected, which is actually a good thing. It makes it very portable and it's also very stylish. Perfect to carry round and made out of solid high quality components.

I used to buy Seagate products - until they totally hosed me with a faulty product that stopped working in 3 months and then refused to admit the poor quality of their products or help me recover my data - a total shame since it used to be my 'go to' choice in the past. No more. I even have an older iOmega drive that hasn't failed for over a decade, but not Seagate.I found that Western Digital was always good in the past and is even better now. They are my GO TO drive of choice for a couple of years now. The drives are sturdy, well-built, fashionable - and most importantly, reliable! I have three WD drives now - each of a different data capacity - one for Mac and two for other platforms. They don't fail - they chug along happily - don't get hot and don't make me feel insecure about my data - EVER. I've had two of them for YEARS now without failure. The Mac drive is new, but the Mac is, too. I have learned to trust WD with my data and I've never been let down. I might suggest that people also buy a protective case for any external drive - it doesn't cost much - and it just gives you that extra level of feeling your data is protected - but that is just IMO.

I was new to the MAC world purchasing the latest 27", and needed a reliable backup HDD. I have always used Western Digital HDDs because they have never failed me in 18 years. Seagate has this tendency. Pleased with purchase, sturdy, not as portable as a passport design, however this will be kept in storage so it does not matter. I purchased a 4TB as well to work with video and audio and it's fast and excellent. I was concerned as everyone was saying if you are using an external HDD, you must go with a GTech or something equally as powerful. I am satisfied so far working on FCPX and have no issues.PROS: Very quiet, sleek, straight edge design makes it really easy to store unlike rounded irregular sized HDDs, fast, reliableCONS: no led light to indicate if it's on or running. It's so silent I cannot tell it's running unless I click on it from the Mac to open it's contents.

Anschließen, anschalten, Daten sichern, ausschalten. Mache damit meine Time Machine Sicherungen. So einfach wie ein Mac zu bedienen ist auch die Handhabung der schnellen externen Festplatte.....Die Formatierung ist im Apple-typischen Dateiformat. Also nicht für Windows nutzbar. Oder es muss die Platte umformatiert werden. Dann kauft man sich gleich die andere Festplatte von WD. Bin bisher sehr zufrieden und kann eine Kaufempfehlung geben
