Sketching Your Favorite Subjects in Pen & Ink

Love this book!
This book has such a simple title, but when you open it, it shows some very technical drawings with pen and ink. It would be really helpful if you already have taken some classes on drawing, such as 2-point perspective. I have that experience and so I am able to jump right in on some of these drawings. This book is almost identical to "Creating textures in Pen & Ink with watercolor" except for the use of watercolor washes. I really like both of these books, but I wish they were a little more for the beginner. What I would recommend is to take the time to do all of the crosshatching and textures before even thinking about starting a drawing. Mastering those techniques will really enhance your skills, then practice only perspective and using shading, shadowing and textures. Once you are really comfortable with those, only then would I recommend starting an actual complete drawing. Pen and ink is permanent, you do not get to erase. If you screw up after hours of drawing in ink, you do not get to erase it. Overall, I give this book five stars for explaining briefly on some drawing perspectives, but you will need to put in the time to practice in order to create some of these drawings. It is not as easy as it may look.

EXCELLENT!!
I've been doing pencil sketching for a long time and recently started trying pen and ink. This book is an excellent resource for learning how to use the medium to create texture, shading and detail without looking cartoony. An excellent addition to my reference library.

Wonderful Pen & Ink
I enjoy drawing with ink. This book has so many examples of exceptional quality! It will make your fingers itch to try them all. The detail is wonderful. It's a book I go to frequently for references in drawing different objects. Fellow students have seen the book and ordered their own copies. I'll be looking for more books by Claudia Nice.

This is the best book on the subject I have seen
I had a couple of books that covered the subject of Pen and Ink drawing, but none were as easy to follow and helpful as this one. The pictures in the book are simply to die for. She shows you exactly how she creates line, shape and form with ink. There is also an explanation of the tools you will need (not much and not expensive really) to do this kind of work. If you are looking for a good instructional book on drawing with pen and ink I highly recommend this book. However, beware, your paints may dry up in their tubes as you get addicted to doing pen and ink. Fun stuff, the author writes in a way that is easy for anyone to follow.

Good book, lots of images and explanations
Good book, lots of images and explanations; just wish it had a few more exercises and "lessons" for the student.

Great reference
I had this book years ago and lost it somewhere along the way so I wanted it back. Very happy it isn't out of print. Mrs. Nice has written several books and she loves drawing as her passion pours off the pages of her books. She is able to give simple, useful advice and her drawings are very good in illustrating what she is trying to get across but they are not simple drawings. They are complex. She is able to present them in a way that seems easy until you try to duplicate it. I love the challenge this book brings me.

This book is a must for any artist to have in their library!
I have always liked Claudia Nice's teaching form. This is actually the 2nd copy of this book I have owned. Somewhere I missplaced my 1st copy and have dearly missed it ever since. So I went to Amazon to find a used copy (it looks brand new) and I am so glad I did! I always go to Amazon first if I need a copy of any book. The used books I have purchased have always been in great shape! Thank you, Amazon.com!

This book I found to be more useful then another one I have
This book I found to be more useful then another one I have, it's basic but shows different techniques of different subjects. I was hoping for this book to show how to detail a bird but unfortunately it only has one or two pages not very in depth about birds. The book is more about simple techniques then how to draw subjects well. The drawings inside aren't what you'd hope for as they're very simple and basic so they don't look as good as they could. The delivery was as expected.

Inspirational
A very talented lady shows how to do realism in pen and ink.It will provide oodles of inspiration for aspiring artists. No abstract or loose drawing here - its all very tight realism, almost technical. Her pen and ink is not however up to her colour work and for some reason does not compare well to the latter.

Great work again by Claudia Nice.
I do like Claudia's work and would recommend it to anyone interested in pen and ink. I have her DVD in Creating Textures and would recommend them if you like to also see the closest to a live demonstration as possible.
