Good plot
Seemed at times a bit of a rip-off of the Mitch Rapp books, even the protagonist's name. But the plot is compelling and the story is well crafted. Very entertaining, I will be reading the next in the series!

Very exciting!
This was edge of your seat and fast moving. The author showed he seemed to research the places and terminology. The main characters weren't one dimensional and evoked the emotion I am sure he meant to evoke. Ah...justice. The end had a surprise twist. I don't try to figure it out ahead. Just along for the ride. I enjoyed it and will get the next book. I would say this would appeal to military people in particular, but we all yearn for justice no matter the affiliation, right?

A good read- although the plot was a bit far fetched
I am a voracious reader, particularly of this genre, and I must say Dark State was well written and moved along as a fast clip. The author gave enough background info, (although barely), on Trapp to make him a believable and sympathetic hero. However, the plot premise was not as believable. Many parts were just too far fetched- eg., our intelligence agencies knowing absolutely zero about a plot of the magnitude in the book; an ex con skin head being able to train other former uneducated ex con skin heads to be on the same level as top elite CIA operatives; or not enough background was given- eg., who masterminded the plan, (only vague references to a defense contractor that was never flushed out), how a large quantity of exact duplicates of all needed equipment, (uniforms, cars, jeeps, helicopters etc.), was obtained - hence the 4 star rating. I don’t want to be a spoiler, so I won’t say more. It’s an enjoyable read. Dark State, and Jason Trapp, were good enough to have me looking forward to reading book 2 in the series. Book one left me wanting to know more about Dani Carter and possible future missions with Trapp. However, I must say that Jack Reacher is still my favorite unassuming hero in this genre.

A tense, non-stop action thriller!
Dark State, Jason Trapp Thrillers Book 1 is a tense, non-stop action thriller that kept me on the edge of my seat. It was full of violence, threats against political figures and dangerous factions who stop at nothing to kill anyone who dares to get in their way. Some of these scenes get a little too close to what is happening in our troubled world today. We could use a Jason Trapp to make things right!I love the main protagonist, Trapp, who is a true patriot having served time saving others in his line of duty with the government. He lost his best friend unfortunately on one of these missions and has never gotten over this deep loss. This is a blockbuster of a beginning for this action thriller that should be a major motion picture one day at the same level as Reacher. I loved this character for his determination to do the right thing in every situation while always avoiding injuring anyone unless necessary. He is fierce in his fight to protect his country and its leadership as he takes on each new mission either on his own or with the help of others. He somehow manages to stay undercover and does not want or need accolades or medals for reward. He does whatever needs to be done for his fellow man and country. What a memorable hero!I look forward to the next book in this series. I highly recommend! Kudos to the talented author, Jack Slater!!

Good story, but redundant emotional descriptions
I liked the story. It’s implausible (i hope), but a good read. The author overdoes the emotional causes for behavior, and does it with annoying redundancy. This being the first in the series, I’m hoping successive books lack that flaw because they get in the way of good storytelling —it breaks the flow when the reader hasto stop and think, What? I already know that because the author has said it too many times already. So, if the author can clean up his storytelling, it could be a great series. I loved the protagonist and want more of him. And I liked the positivity as a counterpoint to the evil that must be overcome at all odds.So I’m looking forward the next in the series, hoping some editor has schooled the author, and he tightens up his narrative.

Jason Trapp
Excellent story and well written, none of your minute detail stuff just good old fashioned action stuff. The author got Jason’s character down well initially although I felt it was a little over the top at times. I just felt that Jason could be a little more polished sometimes. However, a really good read and one I thoroughly enjoyed. Recommended!

Amazing
Slater mixes the current political crisis and uses political science scenarios that are chilling to the bone as his narration is extremely plausible. Lived in DC, and know Utah so all of that is close to home.
