Akira 35th Anniversary Box Set

Often when reviewing childhood favourites they turn out to be disappointing, as we grow out of them. So I was worried it might be the case with Akira and was hesitant to splurge this much on the collection. But really it was worth it. Somehow it's a title that seems to be of timeless quality. Illustrations are drawn in nice, quality style, backgrounds are detailed and so so good and the story is just as fun as it was back then. On top of really good manga you get a mini artbook that goes over the process of creating the cover illustrations for manga. Interesting, especially if you study illustration and would like to learn a bit behind thought process of Katsuhiro Otomo. There's also a famous sew on patch, like the one Kaneda has on the back of his jacket. Looks good quality. All of that in a nice, sturdy box with magnetic clasps. My only complaint would be the way the box opens, which is up. That means every time I want to pick up a volume, I need to pull the very heavy box off the shelf, or else it won't open.

This is an absolute beast of a collection! Pure heaven for an Akira fan. It arrived in an epic box, the packaging around this was immense & made for a large item when arriving. There was no doubt it was well packed! It covered half of the front door step. Delivery was prompt too. A few days after ordering was all I had to wait. The books each have some colouring on the first couple of pages then continues throughout in black & white as per the original. The collectors box in which the books are stored is solid, well made & kinda beautiful. Very smart! There’s an iron-on patch included which is mega cool. The additional book, showing many of the designs is also an immense joy. It is perfect in every way. I thought on this for a couple of weeks before buying because I wanted to make sure I really wanted this & it wasn’t just an impulsive purchase, this being over a £100. But 100% worth it!

Excellent. If you're a fan of manga. Inking, artwork, want to learn how a masterpiece is out together, do yourself a favour and get this. It is HUGE. HEAVY. EXCELLENT QUALITY. The box it comes in is a joy to open every time. 6 volumes plus an art book. Absolutely amazing purchase.

A great Amazon price for the 35th Anniversary box set led me to buy this renowned series. It was delivered in securely in robust packaging and boxes, so I could be sure I was the first to get my hands on these. I’m very pleased with the purchase and Amazon dispatched and delivered with a day or so!

I am not expert on Manga, but even I can see this is a beautiful presentation and amazing box-set. I can't give anything other than 5-stars. The box is sturdy and heavy-duty and the books within a nice and heavy with thick, quality paper. The bonus Akira Club book is nicely presented and there is the obvious bonus of the patch! However, I needed two set to be sent out to me as the first one arrived without the patch and dirty finger marks, missing inserts and misprinted slip-covers suggested to me that I was originally sent a return - in fact I am certain I was as it was also packed in a single box with just bubble-wrap. The replacement came in 3 boxes and seals to show it had not been opened since it left the factory. Angry that spending £100 on a new item gets you a return, missing an item, but Amazon sorted it for me and sent a replacement in two days - just be aware and check yours carefully when you get it. I'd been hoping to get it a bit cheaper, but decided to bite the bullet in case it goes out of print or something like that. At £100 it is expensive, but worth it.

I understand why some people are raving fans of Akira. It is dynamic. Akira is about a bit creepy kid and the future of Japan rests with him.

It's a classic Manga. Hollywood is trying to make a live-action movie of it for years now. It came well packed and in mint condition. Thank U and keep up the good work.

He esperado adquirir esta edición de Akira por mucho tiempo, y definitivamente valió la pena. La caja es preciosa, las ediciones en pasta dura con sobrecubierta son increíbles. El libro de arte es un extra buenísimo. Tengo dos ediciones de panini en pasta blanda, las del box set son ligeramente más grandes. La diferencia es que está en inglés. La conseguí por $2,500 pesos. No es mucha diferencia de lo que me hubiera costado el pack de panini. Así que vale completamente la pena. Estoy muy contenta con esta compra.
