Social commentary with some magic
Hmm. I'm unsure how to rate this one. I enjoyed the post apocalyptic setting. The author has some strong stances on contemporary social issues and she worked those into the book's world in a very interesting way. I like her take on what today's issues could cause if allowed to continue on an unchecked extremist path. In this world the three branches of government are gone and the country is run by the Supreme Court and the church. The church and big business corporations have taken over people's lives in such a way that there's no freedom. It was really fun to read and I wanted to know more about the futuristic world the author built. If it had stopped there and had more of a plot, this would probably have been a five star read for me. But I didn't understand the satanic magic stuff that was added in. About halfway through we learn that the guys aren't just satanic worshippers because they hate the church. They can actually do some magic because of their worship. But that magic is limited to one of the guys summoning the fmc to his bedroom every night and one satanic ritual where that same guy's eyes turn black. There's some hints that maybe Romina has prophetic dreams and a letter from her mom seems to indicate that maybe she did too. But that's all. It really just seemed completely unnecessary. My other reason for not giving this a higher rating is that there was very little plot. Romina is locked in a tower. The guys purchase that tower and discover her. Hijinks ensure (i.e. all the steamy scenes). There's a few misunderstandings where she runs away and they have to save her. Something about a snake. More hijinks. The end.The only really interesting thing about the book was the worldbuilding and the author's social commentary. I can't say I recommend it and I would warn anyone who doesn't like mixing real life social issues into their fictional reading to stay away. But I will be hitting that follow button for this author, because I think I'd read another book by her.

Maybe 3.5 stars...
I liked this book, it was sort of fun & quirky, and it held my interest - but it was longer than necessary. Not sure if the author is aware of her propositional phrase crimes, but they are rampant throughout and sometimes extremely egregious. The social commentary is another reason to remove stars. The author clearly does not understand the overturning of Roe vs. Wade, and unfortunately it seems (after reading some other reviews) many of her readers don't either. I saw a review that actually stated how scary it is that this could really happen in the U.S. I mean, really? Folks, it's important to read not only fiction, but current events - and those from multiple sources - in order to form opinions. This book is a work of fiction by a foreign author who prefaced it with an assurance that this is indeed a story she's had rattling around in her head. An extreme thought exercise, maybe, but with no basis in reality. Also, the likelihood of the overturning of Roe ending up in all women's reproductive rights being severed throughout the country is laughable. Aside from public sentiment being more pro-choice now than ever, the overturn of Roe just left things up to the states, which are all extremely different. In conclusion, if you can have fun reading something sort of dark and twisted, but also a little quirky and interesting, knowing it's fiction, please proceed. However, if you know you'll go all tin-foil hat without doing proper research, please don't trouble yourself, this one is not worth all that.

THIS BOOK OWNS ME!
I honestly don’t know why I didn’t read this sooner! I fell in love with everything about this book. Romina? I saw so much of myself in her, and as for Sonny, Corvin, and Felix, each of them holds a special place in my heart. I couldn’t get enough! This book had everything I needed: dark, emotional depth, mind-blowing twists, and the spice... perfection. I was so hooked I didn’t want it to end. Seriously, this book is everything, and I’ll be recommending it forever!

Incredible
Everything about Heartless Heathens was absolutely stunning and beautiful. A thought provoking, intelligent and story-driven book set in a post-apocalyptic world that is easily envisioned and frighteningly relatable.Sonny. Like I can’t. This man. He’s pain and torment and sin and the heat of a thousand suns all wrapped up in this body that is a testament to the temptation and trials of the human experience. The Escura twins, Corvin and Felix, dangerously wholesome and kind, yet irresistible and undeniable. And Romina. Absolutely one of the THE BEST FMC’s written in 2022.This was my last book read of 2022 and it quickly made its way into my top 10. If you love dark, gothic, WC/RH—you need to read this.

A favorite
I definitely read something unh0ly...and I liked it.Be sure to read the tw's for this book, so you know what you're diving into. If you don't handle an anti -religious sentiment well, skip this book.I really liked this story. It was dark, unh0ly and sp!cy. The cover instantly got my attention. As for the story/spice. I appreciated how Romina grew as a character troughout the story. The boys each had their own way of treating her and the spice was (while a bit unrealistic at times..but hey I don't read this for the realism..) sp!cy! The plot of the book was a bit rushed at some points, but it didn't bother me much. I still enjoyed the story very much.

Amazing from the beginning to the end
This book was amazing from the beginning to the end.Romina is orphaned and has been locked in a bell tower at NotreDame Parochial College for more than a decade by Father Frollo. She is Frollo's prized possession and lives like a prisoner in abysmal conditions and is totally cut off from the rest of the world until the 3 heartless heathens enroll at the college to uncover Father Frollo's secrets and scoop her right out from his hold (by accident) when forcing him to let them occupy the abandoned cathedral which includes the bell tower...and everything (or rather everyone) in it. And when they discover her, they want to possess every single part of her and boy do they ever.I loved how innocent, curious and genuine she was. Seeing her strip away the abuse she dealt with growing up and how she grew into the person she was suppose to be. Finding her space and her voice was wonderful. And then we have the boys. Felix, Sonny and Corvin come from old money and are part of a Satanic society. All of the them, are distinctly different, as are her relationships with them, they each give Romina something she needed, which I particularly enjoyed. From the moment they met Mina, she called out to the darkest and most twisted parts of their souls and she became their complete obsession. It is so hard to pick which one of the guys to fall for but the best part of why choose is you don't have too. And the spice is spicy in this book. The storyline was spectacular. The country is in disarray, run by the church who has their clutches deep into the political sphere. Having the conflict of the church and politics in the story really made the book that much deeper in meaning. So this one definitely going to touch things that some will not be happy. I love nothing more than a shopping list of trigger warnings but be warned there soooo many triggers. If you have triggers and one of them is religion, then I definitely recommend that you at least check out the triggers for this. But If you're someone who doesn't have them or can handle a book that's going to push your boundaries give it a go.

Perfect dark romance book
If you’re looking for a dark romance full of triggers this is a must read!Santana Knox is incredible and you’ll immediately be drawn into this world she has created and the story she tells.Santana has drawn on parts / elements of the story of the Hunchback of Notre Dame for this book, it is not a retelling or reimagining.Romina has been kept away from the world and locked in the bell tower at NotreDame Parochial College by Frollo, never allowed to leave.Until one day, three Heathens arrive at the school, Heathens that Romina is warned are dangerous. They’re not interested in the rules, they’re on a mission that may well destroy her and everything she thinks she knows. But would that be the worst thing? This is hands down one of the best books I’ve read. It will having you feeling all the emotions. You will want to devour it.Our three guys are a family, you get to learn about each of them throughout the book and you’ll fall in love with each one individually.I love seeing how Romina’s character grows throughout the book and how she reacts to the situations she finds herself in.The issues Santana includes within the plot are written incredibly.I could honestly talk about this book for days but I don’t want to give anything away.. you’ll want to read it.If you are sensitive to political or religious issues then this probably won’t be for you and if you have any triggers, please check the warnings. That being said I can’t recommend this book enough!!
