always enjoy re watching this and was the very first DVD i ever bought,if you enjoy this movie i highly recommend the tv series Stargate SG1

Other reviews maybe more technical & nit-picking, but for me the huge enjoyment is of having one of my favourite films here in the director's cut. The overwhelming success of this film against the critical panning on its release, is due to the fact it is pure escapism and has a huge band of dedicated followers & of course the successful tv spin-offs. The added scenes make more sense, but were edited for time, as is explained by the director & writer in the commentary, which is in the 'set up' section of the included extras. However, for me, it's the music that makes it so enjoyable. David Arnold's major breakthrough into film composing is a remarkable achievement. Arnold had almost nothing on his cv, but to compose a film score of this magnitude and actually make the music belong to the film, in the same way that John Williams' music for'Jaws' does, is the aforementioned achievement. The sinister opening bars of the title credits leading into the main theme followed by choral chanting as the details of a mask of RA is revealed, build to a crescendo of operatic proportions. In Giza where the STARGATE is discovered, choral singing of extraordinary beauty is heard & adds to the drama of the scene immensely.I recently purchased STARGATE: The Deluxe Edition (CD), which has the complete score & is the perfect companion to this excellent DVD, which I HIGHLY RECOMMEND.I have re-visited this review 6/01/17 and haves added further comments. I personally would welcome a commission for Mr Arnold to compose an opera worthy of Covent Garden, E.N.O. at the Coliseum or to throw the 'cat among the pigeons', an operatic orgasm to shake them all up at Glyndebourne! We wait......Only the 76 year old Giorgio Moroder is on a par with Arnold regards composing and producing. Moroder has found a new young 'clubbing' audience....but I doubt wether we'll see David Arnold behind the record decks in an Ibiza nightclub!!I've said it before and I'll say it again, of there hadn't been STARGATE, there would be no INDEPENDENCE DAY!!I saw David Arnold at Manchester's Bridgewater Hall with the 70 piece Manchester Camerata conducted by Nicholas Dodd. The 'STARGATE SUITE' closed the 1st half, and left me in tears......You must have this DVD if you love STARGATE.....HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

I love stargate ever since it came on the TV. I have all dvd of evey off shoot. And a miniature stargate. Obviously, I already had the directors cut but when I saw the picture and realised there was a cut out model of a pyramid I thought I would add it to my collection. But there was no cut out model and I paid over £14 for nothing, for something I already had.Apart from that I would have stared 10 as I am a gater.

Stargate the 1994 production directed and co-written by Roland Emmerich, the story which starts at a archeological dig in 1928 and ends up on another World, starring Kurt Russell as Colonel Jack O’Neill the hard noised broken Army Officer and James Spader as Dr Daniel Jackson the Linguists’ expert who may or may not hold the key to the Stargates mystery this movie finally gets the UK release on this format it deserves.This 2010 edition supersedes all previous versions on Blu-ray that where available in the UK, this 50GB disc with its improved picture quality encoded using the MPEG-4 AVC codec and its all new English 7.1 DTS-HD Master Audio there is audio tracks in French and German 5.1 DTS Master Audio and subtitles in French & German there is a choice of cuts of the film between the theatrical cut which runs at 120 minutes and the extended version 130 minutes long.Something I wish the Film companies would do when there are more than one cut of a movie.This Blu-ray is jam packed with extra features that are exclusive to this particular edition which run over 4 hours long including Stargate –A history made and a never before seen new gag reel.Making a direct comparison between this edition of the film and the 2001 DVD is like night and day this Blu-ray has a better field of colours which have skin-tones that are more realistic and a deeper more varied range of blacks, gone also is the blurring round the opening credits and overlays of the DVD along with the flat sound and the grainy picture of the other versions of the film on Blu-ray are a distant memory all in all a worthy up-grade and addition to a Blu-ray Collection...

I recently did a complete run through of all stargate TV shows and movies. Unfortunately this movie wasn’t available to stream on other platforms but was happy to find it available on Amazon Prime. Well worth watching if you are a Stargate fan like myself or if you enjoy sci-fi.

As most buyer's of this Blu-Ray will probably consider it after watching one of the Stargate series on SKY, you will probably already be aware of the fundamentals of "Stargate" and while it lacks much of the humour of Atlantis and SG1, it is certainly worth buying to find out about the origins of the Stargate programme and view it as a spectacular high budget, 2 hour long episode. Viewed like this, it certainly is great value for money and is definitely worth buying.One of the main concerns about buying this on Blu-Ray rather than DVD however is what is the transfer like on this 18 year old film? If you just watch the film, it has to be said it is excellent with an incredibly clean and clear HD experience in both vision and sound, only when you see the supplemental material do you see just what a great job they have done with the film as the picture and sound on these additional documentaries, while variable, is pretty awful.As a stand alone film, or to find out the origins of the Stargate programme, it has to be worth seven pounds fifty of any ones money!
