Lotte Reiniger - The Fairy Tale Films

This was a lucky find whilst trawling through YouTube for old animations. Lotte Reiniger is one of the old school masters of simple animation made beautiful. If you consider that all the work she created was hand made and hand cut, they are truly lovely to watch. Some of the early productions suffer from damage by age, but only a few are in this condition. I am from an age when these animations were common fare on the TV (50's and 60's), then have disappeared from public view. I think that if you want to stimulate animation interests to the younger audience other than the digital, then this collection does the business. Most of the classic fairy tales are there with one or two that are a bit obscure, but the silhouette's add to the eerie visual appeal that harps back to an age now long gone!

Lotte Reiniger is a name I remember from Children's Television a long time ago. I was enchanted then and continue to be so with this set of DVDs. The narration perhaps shows its age, but the magical black cut-out silhouettes cannot fail to charm, with their delicacy and precision. Stories such as the Golden Goose, and the Frog Prince, although well known,seem to be rather neglected nowadays and the sprightly animations bring a freshness, lightness and simplicity to these old tales which my grandchildren find delightful. The films showing Lotte Reiniger at work cutting and snipping were amazing - I could see a definite connection with Lauren Child's work eg Charlie and Lola. My seven-year-old granddaughter is inspired by both artists to get to work herself.

I ordered this compilation while I was writing a research paper on Lotte Reiniger. I needed to see these films in order to get a fuller understanding of her body of work. However, I could not find a Region-1 release of this title so I took a chance that I would be able to watch this in the U.S. However, as luck would have it, my Mac laptop is Region-free and played these discs without a hitch. Woohoo! And of course, the quality was superb and the content - simply dreamy. Enjoy.

It is A WONDER to have this kind of films for sale in Amazon. Lotte Reininer was a good friend of my friend in England. When she told me about her animations, I got curios and made a search in Amazon. And there it was. This collection is a must for those who like animated films before Disney production. The animations are artistic. But not for the youngsters of today, but for the old people like me (60 years). Add them in your collection and enjoy the talent of Lotte Reiniger!

I absolutely adore this woman's work! she has created a whole new world in a beautiful art form, I can only imagine the work that must have gone into making the exquisite figures used in the stories. The movements are so fluid and lifelike, you really have to see them to believe it is possible.

Really, really love the fairy tale films! Lotte Reiniger was a genius of her time! May her films be in the history of animation forever and never forgotten!

Lotte Reiniger's art is for all time, as original and beautiful now as it was nearly a century ago. Her films from the 20s especially convey the innocence and wonder of early cinema. This no longer needs to be lost to us, what with the brilliant restoration supplied here.

I remember these from my childhood, and how magic they are. Harpsichord music (like from a music-box) plays throughout, and old classic stories become fascinating all over again. Highly recommended.

Questo dvd contiene il cinema d'animazione di silhouette di Lotte Reiniger . Molto interessante per chi ama il cinema d'animazione di altri tempi , differente da quello classico in stile Disney ,per esempio. Alcuni titoli probabilmente non hanno una qualità video alta . Bisogna considerare ,però, il periodo nel quale sono stati creati . Consiglio vivamente questo dvd a chi è appassionato di storia del cinema, non solo di cinema d'animazione. Sarà una meravigliosa visione.

Recomendado si te gustan los cuentos infantiles, versiones sin edulcorar de los clásicos, las marionetas, sombras chinescas y sobre todo si te gusta Lotte.Llegó en perfecto estado, lo único que tarda bastante. El vendedor contesta enseguida a las dudas.

Warning PAL dvd not Region 1Imagine my disappointment to receive this beautiful DVD collection only to find out that it is not compatible with my USA DVD player. Buyer beware.
