Good oven thermometer
Well made and simple oven thermometer. Good enough accuracy when check against thermocouple

makes a cheap oven easier to use.
I have a cheap oven with crude temperature control. A check on temperature is a big help. Most of the settings I use are 180°C 200°C or 220°C I want a thermometer that has 180°C and or 220°C as well as 200°C clearly marked.

Accurate and effective
Finally, I know what temp my oven is at! I learnt that the built-in thermostat in my oven is quite off and that I have to preheat my oven for much longer than I though.

Questionable Accuracy
The price of this thermometer is very reasonable and Salter is a known good brand, but personally I'm just not convinced of the accuracy of this thermometer.I have an electric (non-fan) oven and bought this to see how much the temperature dial on my oven was "out" compared to an accurate reading. I assumed that my oven would be maybe 5-10 degrees out either side of the desired temperature, however this thermometer said that I was 30 degrees out!!For example, I was cooking McCain Gastro Oven Chips to go with a nice steak, the packet instructions stated 25-30 mins at 220 degrees. I duly set the oven to 220, but the thermometer was registering 250 degrees!! I went with the normal oven settings, and the chips were perfect in the specified time, at 220 on the oven - if they had been cooking at 250 degrees (as the thermometer stated) they would have been burned to ashes after about 15 minutes.I'm just not convinced it's accurate and found it a distraction from the way I'm used to cooking. It could be perfectly accurate, but I doubt it - there's just no way those chips would have cooked in the stated time at 250 degrees. Some other reviewers swear by it, for me personally, I've binned it as I don't trust the readings.I've rated it 3 stars because I can't say for certain whether it is defective or if my oven is indeed 30 degrees out - but I rather suspect that the thermometer is the issue because the oven temps I use with the food instructions always work out. I just don't believe it's that much of a difference in temperature that the thermometer is recording. No way.

Accurate thermometer
Great product, easy to use and accurate. No more need to o guessing the temperature in my gas oven.

Bought to compare main oven with microwave convection oven
Using the same temperature as my main oven, my microwave convection oven undercooked the most basic things - oven chips.Using this thermometer with ovens set to 200C:Main oven reading 190CMicrowave convection reading 150CI couldnt find an accuracy/tolerance for this thermometer, but by increasing main oven temp by 5C my oven chips were way better. I think my microwave convection oven is just broken, which is a shame as it's only a few months old. Or the much smaller volume of air inside the microwave just doesn't retain heat well. More testing needed!I didn't score the "accuracy" stars as I have no way of telling, without renting some expensive highly accurate thermometer from the National Physics Laboratory.Which leaves me wondering what's the point of these things if they dont state their accuracy?Let's say main oven thermometer and this (any) thermometer are accurate to +/- 10C. Oven can read 10C too high meaning it will show 200 when the air is 190 (slightly undercooked). A 3rd party thermometer might read 10C too low meaning it will show 200 when the air is 210 (slightly overcooked).Air temperature does not translate to food temperature. ie 170C oven doesn't make your pork 170C - more like 80C inside. So I've bought myself a digital food thermometer probe as well, which states accuracy to 1C (ThermoPro TP04). This will give me better inside insight into the temperature of the food rather than the air whizzing around. The stand doubles as a hook (just flip it) but as a stand it's just too narrow and doesn't straddle enough oven rack wires, so it needs to lean against something else just closing the oven door can make it fall over.I'm guessing it's fairly close to actual temperature. But a guess is all it is I'm afraid.
