Phillips 66 X/C 5606A Aviation Hydaulic Fluid - 1 gal Bottle

Hello;SeaStar wants $24/qt for their hydraulic steering oil. This Phillips XC fluid is MIL-H-5606A aviation fluid and works just fine.SeaStar recommends 5606H fluid which has a little more filtering than this 5606A fluid.If you are concerned about the level of filtering, there is a good link up in the "questions" section above if you want to read up on the technical differences between filtration levels. That link is from "thehulltruth" boating forum.At $10.47 per quart ($41.87 / 4), this is a huge savings over the SeaStar fluid.I had to change my boat's 23 year old hydraulic steering hoses (one burst), and I only used about 1/3 of this gallon can.However, two quarts of SeaStar oil would have cost $48 + tax, so I still came out well ahead by buying this gallon. Plus, I now have extra oil for next time I need to change one of my SeaStar cylinder end gland seals (which seem to need replaced every 5 years).The only thing a little funny about this fluid is that it is dyed red color, whereas SeaStar fluid is golden yellow.In reading boating DIY forums, for fixing marine hydraulic steering, I ran across several posts that claimed if you break the boat's hydraulic system open, and red fluid leaks out, someone used automatic transmission fluid to fill the system.You may just have to explain to a boat mechanic, or anyone else, that you used Phillip XC red hydraulic fluid, and not automatic transmission fluid for your steering.Other than that, this is a great value, and I highly recommend this product for your boat's hydraulic steering fluid.Thank you.

The quality of the product is excellent. I am pleased with the size of the product and the metal can is great.

The product was fine but the packaging could be improved because the can was damaged but fortunately not leaking.

Perfect for sea star hydraulic steering.

What can you say? It's 5606A-- good price, fast delivery.

Can was damaged and will not sit upright. I had to pour it into another container before I could use it. I would have returned it but I needed it for a customer’s strut
