Jack and the Beanstalk (Book & CD) Paperback – Illustrated, 6 Mar. 2006

We got the book for a reading exercise whilst home learning. It is a lovely book with a pretty accurate retelling of the Jack and the beanstalk story I remember as a child. Both my boys have enjoyed this book and my seven year old enjoys reading it to himself. Lovely illustrations too.

Simple gorgeous illustrations. Bought as an alternative to a really naff version of Jack and the Beanstalk when homeschooling my son. A lovely story, well written and as I said, the illustrations are just the best.

This has instantly become my 4 year old's favourite book. He had a thing about Jack and the Beanstalk but it was one of the few that we didn't have and I opted for this one because the illustrations looked so inviting. They are simplistic but not overly so with enough to engage. There are a few variations from the original story which have caused a bit of discussion - namely how many times Jack goes back up the beanstalk but it actually makes it more fun. It is fun to read (important for us parents) and much enjoyed by the listener.

When my son came home from nursery talking about magic beans, a boy called Jack and showing me how you climb a beanstalk I knew I had to buy him Jack and The Beanstalk. When I read it to him he was captivated and quite honestly, it's quite entertaining for the parent to read as it's written in a comical way and the illustrations are very good also.

An up to date twist on an old classic. My four year old grandson found it amusing but missed the extra trips up the beanstalk and all the extra Fee Fi Fo Fumming that that entails. It shortenedd the story too musch for us. We enjoyed the CD very much, good sound effects.
