At Long Last It's On DVD/BD.
KK, so at long last we can buy the original 1966 TV series of Batman on DVD. Yay!First things first; lots of people complaining about the lack of UV copy within this pack. I didn't even notice that it was advertised as UV when I ordered it, and I wouldn't have known what UV meant. I now know it refers to a downloadable digital copy of the programmes. So I wasn't disappointed all when I see that it doesn't actually come with a digital copy. In fact my box set mentioned nothing about a digital/UV copy. I see that the picture of the box on this website states it contains such copies but my box just says "Blu-Ray".The picture on this site also seems to suggest that there is not only a Adam West scrap book, but another like book with Robin on the cover too. I didn't get a book with Robin on the front but I did get an episode guide; perhaps the "Robin book" is the episode guide just with a different picture on it.Anyway, the box is nicely made and contain 3 gated sleeves with the three series contain therein; Season 1 has 3 disks, Season 2 has 6 disks, and Season 3 has 3 disks, plus 1 "extras" disk. 120 episodes in all.The picture quality, considering the age of the original material is vary good, though playing it on PS4 there black borders on the sides of the screen, but this is just probably a setting in my PS4 settings that I can change to deal with this, so it's no great deal. There is also a little box of 44 cards in this box set, about playing card size, with hand drawn pictures of Batman & Robin in action. Finally there is the little miniature Batmobile, which I'll keep in the box as it doesn't really appeal to me.So, I am vary happy with this box set, particularly as I wasn't after the UV copies anyway.I loved the outrageousness of it all; the campness, Robin's ability to quickly solve the most ridiculous riddles, Batman's utility belt that held a hug array of objects, the sloping villan dens, the cliffhangers at the end of every other episode that usually saw Batman & Robin tied to some weird machine and about to face death, the bat rope climbing with strings holding back the capes being visible. The list goes on. It was just great.Oh and apparently these box sets are a limited 95000 sets. I have number 41975 >.<Now it's time to catch up on my childhood viewing.

KAPOW !
Kapow! Sock! Biff! Wham!Batman didn't have a time machine in the Bat-Cave, but this is your chance to roll back the years and revisit your 1960s childhood, leave behind the 21st century and just wallow in the nostalgia of much nicer times.Commissioner Gordon and Chief O’Hara, perpetually perplexed by the dastardly deeds of the various villains, inevitably have to lift the glass cheese-dome and reach for the bat-phone.The guest villains (including Burgess Meredith (The Penguin), Frank Gorshin (The Riddler) and Cesar Romero (The Joker), to name but a few) are obviously having a great time hamming it up for the camera. And I love the labels on all the equipment around the Bat-Cave (just in case the Dynamic Duo forget what something is!), a homage to the original comic strip. The 'Giant Lighted Lucite Map of Gotham City' springs to mind. Interaction with the Bat-Computer involves Hollerith Punched Cards!Of course, no attempt is made to hide the fact that their vertical wall climbs are in fact them walking across the floor with the camera tilted through 90 degrees. Indeed a virtue is made of it.OK, so it's all very camp and comical, in contrast to the latter, much darker, incarnations, but that's exactly how it's meant to be and I wouldn't have it any other way. I'm sure there's room for many different interpretations of the genre along the Batman spectrum.Batman and The Boy Wonder are just so earnest and law-abiding (in hot pursuit of the latest villain, Batman is hesitant to park the Batmobile in a No-Parking zone!). And of course the guest villains are all great. The Blu-ray picture is crystal clear (much sharper than it would have been on a 1960s TV!) and of course 'In Color' unlike it would have been seen on a British black and white TV of the time.Pedant's Corner: On page 3 of the accompanying Adam West Scrapbook, 'Washington' has been miss-spelt as 'Washingtion' (with an i between the t & o).A piece of trivia. Alan Napier (Alfred) was a cousin of British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain! The familiar Nana nana them tune can be played by pressing the ‘PRESS HERE!’ button on the side of the blu-ray box and there is a nice, if small, Hot-Wheels model of the 1960s Batmobile from the series. Incidentally, the original batmobile from the series was designed and built by renowned Hollywood custom-car maker George Barris, based on a 1955 Lincoln Futura concept car from Ford.I know what you're thinking. It's a bit pricy. But here you have all 120 episodes, plus some nice extras, on 13 pristine Blu-ray discs. There is much to relish here. Just enjoy.
