Find ou specific oil code you use as i used liquid moly states suitable for car, but i had warning light, drained and put in specific oil for car.

Its safe to use but ive recomend to look in manufacture recomendations i think like castrol low saps oil

Assuming that your diesel is turbocharged then yes, any decent oil is worth having and although you may burn oil in an older motor, you most definately do not want thicker oil potentially giving you turbo problems
