Will stay put with persistence.
At first I thought this thing was pretty useless to be honest. As other reviewers have said, it wouldn't stay attached. I thought I'd solved the problem by wetting the suction cup before attaching it, but after a day or so it fell off next to me while I was watching TV.Then, for the want of a better idea I decided to put some handwash from my soap dispenser onto the suction cup.Et Voila! It's now been stuck to my guitar for a couple of weeks without falling off. Not sure if it was just a fluke or divine intervention but it seems to have done the trick. As you can see from the photo, my guitar has a pretty smooth but matt finish, not gloss. While I would agree that it would probably stick better to a gloss surface, with a little persistence and tinkering, you can get this thing to work for you in most cases.

Doesn't stick
The suction cup mystifyingly (in that you would imagine someone would try to actually attach the product to a guitar before releasing it to market) does not stay attached to a standard gloss finish electric guitar. It stays attached for anywhere between a couple of minutes or a couple of hours (if you really try to mash it down and get all the air out). The most charitable assumption would be that maybe mine has a manufacturing defect, but there seem to be plenty of reviews here confirming that this is a problem, so even then it would suggest a high defect rate.

Does what it says, a good idea, maybe a bit overpriced?
Decent, does what it says although does come detached sometimes, just seems a bit expensive for a small bit of plastic?

Great little bit of kit
Very handy and can put anywhere it's flat on guitar.

Use it twice then consign it to history
It's ok. It's a good gimmick present for the Bassist / Guitarist in your life but they'll use it twice and then it will be consigned to abtin box if similar gadgets that were a good idea waiting to be done well.

It will stay and hold
So long as your guitar has a smooth gloss finish this thing will stick! The suction cup is that good that I put it on my guitar over a month ago and it's still there (but is really easy to take off when you want leaving no residue like the ones that use 3m pads). And it will hold most sized picks, I use a 4.3mm flow pick and although it needs a good to get it, it stays in nicely.

Disappointed
Simply doesn’t stay on for more than a second or two

Doesn't stick to my guitar
Supposed to stay on with suction but drops off the guitar after a few minutes.

Unconventional Buddy
The Pick Buddy from Ernie Ball has completely revolutionized my playing and has remained one of my only buddies and definitely my best buddy.I don’t use the pick buddy to hold a pick. That’s why it was designed. That’s not how I use it. That would be way to obvious and exactly what they would be expecting.I’ve firmly placed the pick buddy on my guitar, roughly underneath the pickup/humbuckers (depending on your religion) and closer to the bridge than the neck and I’ve left it there permanently. It serves as an anchor - A consistent, solid anchor for my picking hand pinky finger. This is important to me because an anchor point had never been a part of my playing that I considered critical. It is. Providing an anchor allows my picking hand to alternate pick more accurately, string skip with more precision, and generally play more comfortably. Without getting numb. This is what I’ve discovered personally works best for me.Many great guitarists rest their picking hand on the strings, many float their hand completely above the strings, many rest their pinky alongside the pick guard, and many use some combination whether they’re palm muting or sweeping or strumming. These anchor points - resting points for the picking hand - are a technical part of guitar playing that has fascinated me since I learned about them. They’re part of what makes up the motion mechanic. The Ernie Ball Pick Buddy is the unsung hero of my motion mechanic. I’d encourage you to try one if you can afford it right now. If not, start saving up for one. If it doesn’t work for you it’ll just be a glorified pick holder, which is, ironically, all that it was originally designed to do.Would a generic suction cup do all this plus hang your shower squeegee? Well let me ask you this, could anyone ever suck up to you to replace your buddy? They would have to be a Nutty Buddy.Personally I appreciate the subtle crescent shape of the pick buddy. It sort of cradles my pinky finger, keeps it from slipping off. From the cradle to the grave I love my Ernie Ball Pick Buddy. Highly recommend.

Cordialement.
