Pathetic translation kills the fun of reading
Amish has created a wonderful world where our mythology, history and fiction are well intertwined. Really interesting story. But as soon as I started reading, I noticed that some of the words sounded a little strange. So I compared it with the original English text. In page 20, 'the dirt tracks in Shiva’s own land' is translated to Dirt track just means unpaved mud/soil road, that is മണ്പാത. The translation made it disgusting. Anyways, it can be tolerated. But soon after that, 'Shiva marveled at the almost obsessively meticulous planning of the Meluhans' is translated weirdly as How creepy.! How come 'obsessively' become ഒഴിയാബാധ in this context? Did the translator use Google Translate or some other means? I read that the translator is highly educated and experienced in the field. But how did these things happen? Such translations spoil the fun of reading. And on further reading, I noticed the translation errors happening again. If you can unsee such translation errors, the book is truly a great experience.
