Can this be used to check for dampness in a caravan?

If you press it directly onto a surface, yes it will. If you mean about checking for moisture in the air, no. (Just to be clear.) I have used it on MDF, chipboard, plywood of upto 6mm (so far), 13mm plasterboard, tile grout, over wallpaper, through carpet. I checked for damp in kitchen cupboards, ceilings, walls and in the wood within the loft and shed outside. Hope this helps.
