A great starter book, this book was used, the pages where perfect the front cover was scruffy looking, but can't really moan for the price and quick delivery

Just what we wanted

My 10-year-old granddaughter loves this book and has made several projects from it. The instructions and illustrations are clear and easy to understand.

Excellent book as gift for a young artist

This is one of those books where more time has been spent on making it look pretty rather than on making it easy to use by child readers. I expected to find all the basic info at the front. Not so, there is an introduction about the book, and a list of what equipment and materials the reader needs, but, inexplicably, the techniques section is at the back, this would have been better at the front, so that the reader learns, for example, what 'basting' and 'tacking' means before they come across it in the project patterns. Likewise the section on using a sewing machine -should have been at the front, not the back of the book. The projects in this book are sorted into different chapters according to type - Clothes and Accessories, Things for your room, Bags, etc etc - so far, so good. Each pattern has a rating for how easy it is to make, ranging from easiest with 1 smiley face, up to 3 smiley faces for hardest. Now, in a book with this title, I would have expected each chapter's patterns to be arranged so that the easiest patterns come first with the most demanding, last. Not so, the first patterns in the book are the 3 and 2 smiley face levels, and this is the case for most of the other chapters. However the patterns themselves are quite good, so I would say this book is more for the child who has already completed a few projects and is confident using a sewing machine. For that reason I would have kept it for my granddaughter later rather than give it to her now. But I am returning this book which I bought second hand as it was not in condition described - previous owner had cut out page and a template, then very badly sellotaped them back in the book. I have not deducted any stars for this as its not relevant to this review which is for the content of the book.

This book is full of simple sewing projects for my 8 yr old granddaughter. Easy to understand and she loved it.

Bought as a gift but not yet given (birthday) - looks great!

This has been a great sewing book for kids. My grandchildren have made several projects successfully. The instructions are clear and the item lists contain very basic fabrics and notions easily found at home or in a fabric store.

I’m sure as a novice I can learn from this book

Purchased this book for my 8 year old granddaughter for Christmas. I started teaching her to sew this summer and I think this book will help her start sewing on her own. Has many cute and easy patterns to sew and helpful sewing machine tips.
