Inexpensive, working AGO trap
If you look up "Aedes gravicidal ovitraps" (AGO traps), you'll learn more about the design. The screen and drain holes are crucial features. These are cheaper than the BG-GAT ones and way simpler (possibly cheaper) than building such traps myself. "Mosquito dunks" are unnecessary, but they do give me peace of mind if the trap were opened or otherwise disturbed.Do NOT try to hang them like the photos show - the weight of the water in the base will pull the body of the trap off of the lid.I assembled them according to directions and put them next to my downspout extenders (the suspected breeding zones in my yard). After one week, they're definitely catching mosquitoes on the glue, and there are definitely juvenile mosquitoes in the water that will never get out to bite anyone. I'm delighted.

Do not trust this company or product
Absolutely misleading and falsified study information regarding mosquito species effectiveness. It does not work period despite changing out stick pads and following instructions.

May help somewhat
I got 4 of these at the beginning of the summer and distributed them around the yard along with a bunch of more primitive oviposition traps (open buckets with water and regularly refreshed mosquito dunks). Three months later my conclusion is that this system is better than nothing but still not as good as having evil insecticide sprayed in the yard by a professional. With no anti-mosquito measures, the yard was almost unusable. if I wanted to do yard work I had to douse myself in repellant and wear a special hat with a mosquito net attached. With these traps (and the open bucket ones) I can work in the yard if I spray mosquito repellant on all open skin: I will probably miss some spots and get a few bites. When we had a spraying service, you could work in the yard with no protection, and generally be OK.The nice thing about these traps is that they need very little upkeep. You don't need to add mosquito dunks. The water may need topping up occasionally: you can do that with a thin-spout watering can without having to open up the trap.

Very Disappointed.
On a recommendation from a major consumer products publication, I bought four of these. Very cheaply constructed product and WAY overpriced for what you get. Plus, I've killed more by swatting them on my skin than all four have killed in weeks. What I don't like about the construction: 1.) The top has an optional hanging/carry handle (it's just a long black twisty). Problem is, the top is not screwed or plastic welded to anything below it. There are 4 plastic studs that the top hat is pushed onto. The weight of the bottom (especially when filled with water) simply pulls the top off and the bottom falls to the ground while splashing water on your leg. 2.) The bottom water container is very difficult to connect to the upper receiving part. The bottom has recessed grooves while the top has very shallow tabs. You are supposed to twist the two together (about a 1/4 inch) but even with large hands there is no good hand hold and sometimes when you think you've got it, you try to pick it up and the bottom falls out and you get splashed with water again. 3.) The mosquitos are supposed to get stuck on the disposable sticky tape in the upper section. Trouble is the adhesive apparently doesn't work well when wet. How does it get wet? Probably one of two ways (or both). Since it sits directly above the water bath there is probably evaporation rising upwards. Secondly, since (as already mentioned) the top and bottom halves are hard to connect, the sticky tape falls into the water bath while trying to connect them together. There is a screen between the two halves but it still happens sometimes. It would be better if there was something holding the sticky tape in place because gravity is working against you - you can't flip it over and twist (remember the water!).Additionally, if you still think you want these, check the price of replacement sticky tape inserts before you order.

Easy but not super effective
This thing is easy to use and does kill mosquitoes. But it isn’t going to solve the problem. However a multi layer approach to mosquitoes is probably your best bet

Effective as a Slow Burn
This is the standard Ovitrap, something there are loads of DIY instructions for but I wanted one made for the purpose rather than cutting up window screens myself. This trap ultimately works by luring mosquitos to lay eggs in a place that will kill their larvae. The glue catching the adults is much less likely. Mosquitos have short lives, killing their generations is a great control strategy.I don't think this Ovitrap is as strong as Biogents, but it does cost half as much, is slightly smaller and fits in tucked away rather conveniently. These traps are good because if you fail to maintain them, they still work. The screen traps gestating mosquitos in the bucket so they never escape, no BT or poison needed. Just leave the screen on, keep water in the bucket. If you forget to add poison the trap still works, until a screenless bucket. The average female mosquito lays eggs something like 10 times in 6 places, so I think 2 or 4 isn't going to cut it in Central Texas. I use these traps and 2 different biogents all along side each other, fairly effectively. I recommend getting these Orvid traps outside as soon as the last freeze. Earlier the better.

Waste of Money
We had a huge mosquito problem in southern California this year. Not a single mosquito has gone into the trap. They were placed in shady vegetative areas as directed. One I tried to hang, but woke up with spilled all over the ground - the weight of the water and the way it is put together does not hold if hung.I'd like to return for a full refund!
