Superb monitor
Basically this is plug and play with a 12" retina MacBook. A lovely piece of kit, huge screen space and very convenient as I can "dock" the laptop with a single cable which handles video, audio, USB data and power to charge the MacBook all in one go.The only slightly irritating thing is that when the screen goes into power save mode it also seems to cut off the power to the internal USB hub; this means that if I connect my external hard drives via the hub in the monitor (which is really the only way to do it with the way the bog-standard MacBook is setup with just the single USB-C port) then I have to disable power save mode or the laptop complains about the drives being disconnected without being unmounted. Not great, but not a deal breaker either - I use this in my home office (work from home) and leave it running all day, then unmount the external drives and unplug the laptop when I shutdown in the evening.Any minor irritation factor is greatly outweighed by the ability to run a fullscreened remote desktop session into work at 3840x1600!

great screen, shame it's arrived defective!
This screen is awesome but also disappointing.I unpacked and plugged in my screen only to see a load of grey lines and a bar across half the screen! This monitor has great specs but the quality control is clearly not worth much and reading other peoples comments about the faults they've had after 3 weeks and 2 months they all seem to be the same faultI've opted for a replacement because this is the only monitor out there like this. The DELL 38" looks good but this one just pips it for what I want and the speakers are quite good for being a TV when I want my PC to play films/youtube etc. When filling out the return and replace I see they now want me to pay for the return postage and will only refund up to £4.95 for postage! Come on Amazon that's just taking the mickey! This monitor will not cost me £4.95 to return it!

A fantastic monitor
I thought long and hard over buying this, mainly because of the cost. Yes it's not cheap by any means. Previously I've been using either a 27" iMac at home or at work a laptop plugged into a pair of Dell 24" monitors. This monitor is much much better than the twin monitor set-up.I have been using this for several weeks now with no problems and the screen quality is excellent. It's a joy to use, I'm a software engineer and not a gamer. But the ability to have several large windows open next to each other is amazing and very practical. As is having a vertical resolution of 1600 pixels. 1920 x 1080 never struck me as a good size for anything other than watching movies.Update.I already had a very good pair of desktop speakers when I bought this monitor so I just plugged them straight in and have not really used the built in speakers on there own. Therefore can't really comment on the quality of the built in speakers. After several more weeks using this monitor I still think it's a great (if expensive) monitor. When I looked at it on amazon today I see that they are offering it for around £300 less than I paid for it which makes it a much better value deal.

Monstrous screen. Enjoying it so far for programming on a Macbook Pro. You will have to put in the time to really make use of the real estate if you're not used to a screen like this. I started off mirroring my screen and dimming my laptops screen to black, so I could get used to this behemoth. On Mac, I would recommend getting a window manager that can handle the wide aspect ratio. There are a few on the Mac App Store, but make sure it can divide the screen into enough different areas.Once you get your windows setup, you can all but eliminate your cognitive lag between windows that wouldn't be visible on a screen not as large.Depending on your eyesight, I would try sit it further away from you than you may think is necessary. If it's too close, for focusing on text, you will find yourself moving your neck rather than your eyes and although this may sound odd and paint me as entirely sedentary man in front of my gargantuan screen, this seems to increase cognitive load and simply isn't a problem on screens with 'typical' aspect ratios. As a side note, for fine grain UI work anyway, I will continue to use my Mac laptop screen, due to more realistic colours, more similar pixel density to a lot of the iPhones/iPads and the fact that it doesn't have a curve. But if you prefer writing in an coding architecture that relies on a fair amount of different files to complete a feature (Clean Swift for me at the moment). So you can have some documentation, a terminal window, or whatever, plus all your test files, you can easily get 8-10 windows up that really really reduces cognitive load. But your mileage may vary and you may have less windows if your codebase hasn't got line lengths under control and you can't abide by too much wrapping text.Having said all that, you can't possibly use all of this screen, all of the time. You can find yourself spending a fair bit of time focusing on just a small part of the screen, which can make you feel like a bit of a pillock with such a large screen – mostly taking up none of your attention.A final comment, the single cable to connect and charge your laptop is a delight that really cannot be understated. Some of the cheaper and slightly smaller earlier generations of this screen don't have this.P.S. Should you just get two 4K screens and sit them side by side? I think the limitations of any operating systems having to treat screens as separate entities, having just a single screen as your main scope does bring many benefits, not least on macOS.
