Yes, the product includes a CR2032 battery.

Does it always stay turned on? I'm looking for a thermometer that doesn't have an annoying "auto off" feature

You can turn it off manually by holding down the C/F button (the temperature unit button). It's not obvious you can do this.

Is this item works outdoor as well?

Yes it would work fine outside but I would not say they are 100% waterproof as there are 3 small holes in the back as in the picture. Good product though and accurate to a degree or two

does it record max and min temperatures ?

Yes it does show max a min as well as current temp. the max and min numbers are on the right, the current temp is on the left. When setting the alarm the display on the right is used to set the alarm. When you press reset all the numbers are cleared including min and max. But alarm setting remain the same!
