but this one has proven they are brilliant - cant comment on others
Bought this for my wife during the birth of our baby! Initially we were quite sceptical of the pain releiving properties of a TENS machine in general (not just this particular brand), but this one has proven they are brilliant - cant comment on others! My wife had to be induced so her early labour contractions where more painful than a natural labour and we did wonder if this would work properly or not. It took a little while to get the hang of remembering to press the Boost button just as contractions began (not the TENS machines fault), but once we got the timing right the pain relief was quite noticable. It was used on its own for virtually most of the day, up until around 10pm in fact so that my wife could stay mobile on her birth ball and wall about, later on it was used in combination with gas and air. My wifes comment was that it felt like someone blowing 'raspberries' on her back, so it must have been good! The power levels on this machine start quite low, which is helpful if suffering mild contractions, but we started at a slighty increased level. The power goes from 1 through 10. We used the TENS right up to the point my wife had an epidural (her labour was induced at 9am Friday and she had the epidural at around 3am Saturday), and even then she only had it on level 6 so we got a lot of use out of it, and if it wasnt for the epidural I expect we would have used it right through to birth - incidentally the epidural didnt work and I my wife said she would have prefered to have carried on using the TENS all the time as it was working so well, in fact she said that she would have struggled with pain relief without it. It is so effective that on one occasion we forgot to turn the boost feature off after the contraction and on the next contraction my wife got quite agitated as it appeared not to be working anymore - this was solved by stepping up the power one level. This valuepack came with batterys, pads and a really handy storage/carry pouch, so really was a grab it out the bag and go!The controls of this TENS are so simple to use, on-off, boost and up & down power level, its even better because it can be held in one hand and the buttons operated with your thumb which is ideal for holding your loved ones hand/head/hair with the other hand! The display gives a clear indication of what it is doing - it has a really easy to see power level chart. The only slightly odd thing is the boost/burst mode. Burst mode is effectively a pulsed 'low power' mode and boost is a continuous 'high power' mode. I say high and low power, but it doesnt change the actual power level, it just the amount of time the power is applied. This isnt a problem, the only thing that did cause an issue is that during labour I had to pop out of the room for a minute and the midwife was left in charge of the TENS and she didnt know what BURST and BOOST meant - I tried to explain but at 4am, 19hrs or so into labour, you start to get a bit tired!. My only suggestion to the manufacturer would be to change the way that they are displayed.. ie.. when on BURST (the normal mode) to not show 'BURST', and only show 'BOOST' on the lcd when on BOOST, that way it is 100% clear that its on BOOST as nothing else is on the screen (apart from power level) at any other time.

Incredibly useful in labour
This little machine was absolutely essential as pain relief during my long and difficult labour. It helped during more than 20 hours non-stop until I was 5cm dilated. Very easy to use, different levels of strength easy to adjust and increase when the contractions were getting stronger. The pads were easy to put despite so many hours being used, with a few drops of water to help attach to the back, as the instructions say. Batteries did last with no problem even though we used them for many hours non-stop.Would buy again and again and will definitely use in my next labour.

Absolutely fantastic!
I never ever write reviews for a product, but I had to for this. I used it for labour and couldn't have done it without it.I bought it last minute before my due date - delivery super fast and efficient.Easy to use, husband managed to figure it out and put it on me in the midst of labour, no problem. The pads stayed on for 24-36hours or so.I was in labour for ~45 hours with my first baby. Put this on when contractions started getting more painful. I managed to labour at home til 7cm with this, the midwives couldn't believe it.Got through whole of labour just with this as pain relief, it was so amazing and I can't recommend it highly enough.Good luck!

Instructions aren't amazing and it took me a while to realise that ...
Does what it says on the tin. Instructions aren't amazing and it took me a while to realise that boost can be used at any intensity and not just on the highest setting. Really helped me get through really labour. I knew a tens would be good for me as I've used them before after dislocating my knee. Only thing I'd say is that if your contractions are at the front (mine were) it's probably less helpful. Good distraction from that early pain though!

Couldn't have coped without
I had an unplanned home birth! My baby came too fast.If I didn't have this, I would have had NO pain relief and don't know what I'd have done...I used a tens for my first baby, I found it very helpful from start of labour through until I got to gas and air. (Distraction more than anything but it does help)I looked at hiring a tens for my second baby but realised the price to hire is only £10 cheaper than to buy one. I felt it's a rip off £35-75 to hire anc much better value to buy.I'd recommend this tens.Need to try it out and get use to it before

It worked for only 15 minutes!
I bought this early for my labor & birth to make sure I had time in case baby came early, so unfortunately I am out of the return window now.It worked great and relieved SO MUCH PAIN… for 3 contractions, then it just quit working. We tried new batteries, new leads, etc. but nothing worked. So sad it couldn’t help for the rest of my labor- definitely a disappointing waste of money.

Didn't really help me
I'm not going to say that this product didn't work, it just didn't help me at all. But it obviously helps other people.

Good
Very easy to use and it takes the edge of the pain off. I couldn't notice the low intensity but i felt the high intensity and the boost. For me it worked better than the gas although i combined both when i could. Dont think i would have coped without it, although there was a point that i needed stronger pain relieve options than tens or gas.
