Digitally remastered two CD set containing four albums from 1973 and 1975. These recordings contain Mathis's interpretations of the popular songs of the day plus new material. Soul producer Thom Bell produced I'm Coming Home, steering Mathis in a more contemporary direction. All albums enjoyed US chart success and I'm Coming Home was a UK Top 20 album with the single 'I'm Stone In Love With You' peaking at No. 10. Slipcased and with extensive new notes by Charles Waring.

a great bargain for those who appreciate great popular singing!
What a great set of albums on two cds!I consider Mathis' "Me & Mrs. Jones" & "Killing Me Softly With Her Song" as peaks in the art of popular song singing. His recording of "I Was Born In Love With You/Summer Me, Winter Me" on "Me & Mrs Jones" is a pop classic. Sheer beauty! That album also contains great covers of songs of the early seventies. The one track I don't care for that much is (surprisingly) "Me & Mrs Jones", but that is just my taste. Billy Paul, I thought, did it much better. (Here are quotes from my earlier review of the Real Gone release of this album: "His vocals could not be better. They excite and ,for the most part, thrill me. He even seems emotionally invested in what he is singing. The high points are 'I Was Born in Love with You/Summer Me, Winter Me', 'You're a Lady', 'Love Theme from "Lady Sings the Blues', 'Sweet Surrender', 'Remember', and, a song right now that I can't get out of my head, 'If I Could Reach You'.): I haven't changed my mind from my previous comments. I'd like to add that I thought Mathis' cover of Harry Nilsson's "Remember" was just as great as the original version (and perhaps more personally touching than Nilsson's).The album "Killiing Me Softly With Her Song" is one of his very best, equal if not better than "Me & Mrs Jones". (Here are quotes from my previous review of this album remastered by Real Gone: "The album 'Killing Me Softly With Her Song' is magic! Everything in it works (from the album cover to the singing to the songs, to the arrangements)! I can say nothing wrong about this album. Mathis was in great voice. His producer, Jerry Fuller, did a fantastic job on every song. Fuller had also produced the other great album 'Me and Mrs. Jones'. The producer even wrote 'Show and Tell' which was originally written for Mathis. I consider every track a classic example of both songwriting and singing. Mathis' voice is in prime condition, and his heart is involved with the story of almost every song. For me the standouts were 'Arianne', 'Aubrey', 'Killing Me Softly With Her Song', 'Neither One of Us (Wants to Be the First to Say Goodbye)', and 'Good Morning, Heartache'. I also like the others but the above listed reached the Meistersinger level. They thrill me! Amaze me! And must have scared the hell out of other singers!" Again, for this album, I have not changed my previous opinions. His album "I'm Coming Home" when it first came out was a little too strange for me at the time, but now I enjoy it more. His vocals, as usual, are great. As for the songs, they grew on me, and I enjoy them just as much as the songs on the previous two albums. Read the notes about this album in the accompanying booklet. There are some interesting comments concerning the prevarications of Clive Davis in that he claimed he was the one who initiated the creation of this album. Thom Bell, the albums producer, calls him out.The album "Feelings" is, in my opinion, less great than the other albums, but still many of his versions of these songs cannot be faulted. Even this one is growing on me with great versions of "Stardust" and "99 Miles From L.A". Just like the previous album, the more I listen to this album, the more I enjoy it.The comments in the booklet accompanying the cds give the reader a sense of the times and provide further information concerning the recordings! You will enjoy the songs much more once you read the writer's comments. As to the remastering, I am not qualified to comment. This is a must have collection if you love Mathis' singing.

Wonderful CD.
This could be my favorite Johnny Mathis CD of all time. Simply because it is the only CD Iknow of that has my favorite JM song of all time. It also has other rare gems such as Wildflower ,Aubrey ,Corner of The Sky from Pipen I belive and Stop,Look,Listen to Your Heart. I Was Born in Love With You and many others that are more well known. If I'm remembering right, many of these were from the 70"s and early 80's. I bought it twice so I will never lose these songs again. Hopefully! By the wayI do love all the early Johnny Mathis music too. I was collecting his music since I was 12 years old. I had it all on vinyl. At 30 I moved to another country and it was all lost. So it's wonderful to begin to get some of it back after so long.
