Soprano Saxophone by Gear4music

I am just reacquainting myself with the sax after 25 years, so I wanted something that was a decent entry-level standard. The sax was well protected when it arrived but I have to say the cheap and nasty mouthpiece really does let this down and has left me unable to play the sax properly. I only managed to give it a blast by borrowing a friend's decent mouthpiece, or the whole thing would have been sent back based on that first experience. I have now ordered a decent mouthpiece and am looking forward to giving it a proper test. But please, supply a decent mouthpiece in future - the one you are using at the moment is shocking.

First things first, the item was missing a spring on the G# key making the item unplayable. Gear 4 Music offered to pay for the replacement, however the concern is that had this item been checked prior to dispatch, this should have been easy to spot.This aside, the saxophone is superb. The tech who set this up said the same thing, and interestingly had an Acadamy soprano saxophone which was identical (and cost a whole lot more).The mouthpiece is trash, bin it at your first opportunity. Overall the action is smooth and the tone is excellent once you stick a decent mouthpiece on.Don't believe the forums about Chinese horns. The quality is great these days both in build, finish and tone - far in excess of the cost. If you're interested in a soprano and you can already play saxophone - get this saxophone. For the cost, the horn is worth twice as much at least.The logo on it is ugly though :)

I have been playing saxophone for 6 years now. This soprano saxophone is so cool I can play the hole instrument from low to high I love this sax I would highly recommend it to anyone. The case is like a backpack. Love the feel of it I payed £250 but it feels like a £500 sax. Thank you Gear4music you did it again.

Great looking instrument real nice finish nicely packed although no instructions so not great for a begineer to put together,something like this quality fine for average sax player and good price.

Bought this as a bigginer coming from clarinet. Nicely made and gives a good tone straight out of the box. For the money I would highly recommend it.

Nice little player

This is a beginners/starter sax from Gear4Music.com It plays smoothly but has some defects: The tuning is a little out at times and requires effort to play in tune although it will do so. Some of the mechanism can be a little loose with screws that require attention after some vigorous playing.Upgrade the mouthpiece to a Yamaha and you have a really good beginners sax. Don't let the defects put you off - overall it is in really good condition and for the price you cannot go wrong really.If you are going to be a serious player then perhaps you might want to visit [...] and try one of their own JP043 Soprano Saxophones they are about £420 (web price) and play really nicely and easily in tune, or for a more professional saxophone try [...] for Keilworth, Selmer et. al. here also you can find a wide range of reeds and mouthpieces are good prices.For music books check out here on Amazon or [...]I have played both the JP043 and this Gear4music saxohphone and for the price this one beats the JP043 although if it had been £100 cheaper I would definitely recommend the JP043.Hope this helps!
