Annabelle [DVD] [2014]

Iconic and Terrifying
"Annabelle" is a wonderful story: a former toy which holds all the evil bestowed into it by the suicide of a Satanist. Mia, the protagonist of this tale, a pregnant mother, undergoes a horrible shock when crazy cultists attack her and her neighbours, murdering two people horribly. A seemingly innocent doll, bought as a gift by her hardworking husband, takes on a terrifying life of it's own. There is one thing the demon attached to this doll wants, and one thing only: a soul to take back to Hell. Mia attempts to fight off this malign spirit, but the manifestations keep getting stronger and more violent as time goes on. It wants her innocent baby, and is willing to do whatever it takes to get her.Whilst trying to get her husband to believe the truth of what is happening, Mia's sanity starts to unravel. Unexplained happenings keep pushing her to more and more desperate ways to save her child... but not even a priest can contain Annabelle. The presence attached to the doll tries to cause the priest's death, and refuses to be taken into a church. With nowhere else to turn, only the ultimate sacrifice will stop the horrific demon from taking Mia's baby.Excellent acting, suspense building steadily, with a few spine chilling scares included, not a hack-and-slash, but an explosive third act that will leave you not wanting to be alone in the dark.... or have anything to do with dolls for the immediate future. Highly recommended.

NEVER AGAIN!
Maybe I'm paranoid and it was a good film, but this keeps coming up on my suggestions more than anything else, along with constant emails about rating it!I'm one of these people that doesn't know what to believe when it comes to curses, spirits and scientific answers. For anyone vulnerable, they should not touch it. That includes possible mental issues or bad experience that could have been considered as supernatural. We don't know what's out there but I'm not having this in the house. I used 'Amazon watch' because I rarely watch films more than once these days. Its a good film, but the rating is just for that.Note: The real Annabelle doll is locked in a secure case at the Warrens.

Ive been a fan of the Saw films since day one so i have bought most films connected with the production company that made them including this film.I was really impressed with the conjuring and was hoping this would be better. I think this story is a little less believable and scary than its predecessor. What i find scary is the fact that Annabelle as a doll has a solid real life story all of her own and (to me) the facts are extremely scary.Although the doll in the film bears no real likeness to the original doll kept safe in a cabinet at the Warrens house (see The Conjuring) i certainly feel the doll that was made for the films itself is scary as it is and the designers have done a bang on job there!!!Whenever the doll is in the shot i was always thinking something bad was going to happen

Great horror film
Annabelle is set about a year prior to Ed and Lorraine Warren taking possession of the doll. When John gives the vintage doll to his wife Mia it triggers a chain of terrifying events.I know some people have criticized this film but I'm not one of them. Annabelle is a great psychological horror film that continues building up tension until the very end.Recommended.

A James Wan movie! Always awesome!
Good movie. I love it because it is based on true events.Actually, Ed and Lorraine Warren were paranormal investigators, all cases they've solved includes Annabelle & Conjuring. Both the movie is a James Wan's movie.James Wan's horror movies have always been the best of all time. They have got unique horror effects and feeling in their movie always. You should watch Insidious series also.

Chilling in the most extreme way
Obviously, or maybe not so obviously, the best advertisement for this film is the film THE CONJURING. Where THE CONJURING plays with facts a little bit, ANNABELLE is a fictitious story. This is not to lessen the impact of the film in any way. I saw the film in the theatre and it was fun, as in "scary fun" which is a slogan used or overused by a cable channel. The basic premise is a variant on the haunted house story, except that the vehicle for the supernatural events is the well-known Annabelle doll. The script writers seem to have taken on the material that Ed and Lorraine Warren talked about in their books. I chose to watch this in the evening and with perfectly spooky timing something fell in another room and my Cat looked up in alarm, and like one of those "what not to do in a horror story" examples, I went and checked. The second time it happened, I left well enough alone. After all if it's just a "coincidence" that's fine, but if the rules of horror stories are anything to go by, you don't have to go and lookfor trouble. The special features in the Blu-ray version are totally marvelous; the one aspect I think fans of supernatural horror are going to love is the anecdotes that talk about eerie events on set. Deleted scenes made me think that a directors cut could've been made, since there was some material that led in a different direction. Whilst thefilm as it is works extremely well, it is evident that with James Wan as producer, the style of film we're going to get is pretty much already set: in the making of feature Wan talks about what you don't see, things out of view, things in the corner of your view, the sort of things that he delivered so perfectly in THE CONJURING and in INSIDIOUS, so when you are on a good thing, why shift to another style. I would've liked to have seen a director and producer commentary for the film but I guess you can't have everything. Maybe James Wan will do a detailed commentary for INSIDIOUS THREE. The style of the fil is already set, which is not bad, just that if you see the deleted scenes, you can see where the director may have taken it if given free reign. Its not bad that the edit was changed to a James Wan style, but it really is something that shows more of James Wan as director, rather than the name on the film who was hired as director. In that respect, I would have liked to have seen what the director might have done if left to his own devices. Nonetheless, if you havwe the suspension of disbelief, this film works well, and I enjoyed it immensely, and the behind the scenes spooky events is actually quite fun. A very professional result, I just wish that James Wan had not said that he is leaving Horror as a director, since this is very much a James Wan film.

INQUIETANTE.

Aaaaahhhhh!🎃
Very scary! And what makes it scarier than `The Conjuring' is that there are mostly devils than ghosts and they look incredibly scary!👻
