Nice to not have to paint before painting! I often use dark backgrounds when painting birds or animals so it works for shadows. These save me a step. Canvas is a bit loose but spray back with warm water helps to tighten it

These canvases are just what I needed. They're very well made and sturdy.

There was an obvious puncture to the package as soon as I opened the box. The puncture goes all the way through the corner of 2 canvases and thankfully stopped before puncturing a third. These are not rips I can work around either, so 2 of the 6 canvases are going straight into the garbage.The quality of the canvas is ok. Some are wrapped in an extra layer of plastic and some aren't, and there's a bad odor coming from the unwrapped canvas. It's likely the primer, but it stinks and obviously needs to outgas more. I would not want to use watercolors with this as it doesn't seem porous enough. My acrylics slapped on just fine.

Excellent gift idea for the artist in your family (which I am not! LOL). They were very pleased with these canvases.

As some of the other reviewers have mentioned, the gesso on these is uneven. I am attaching a close-up photo of the surface under bright light. These are definitely not artist quality but okay for the casual hobbyist.The staples are evenly dispersed on the back and I think they will hold fine. I got the 4-pack of 11" x 14". It comes with 4 canvases. All, 11x14. They have wood to help support the stretched canvas. It’s very easy to paint on with acrylics. I got these for a collage of planet paintings. The black really makes the planets “pop”. I’m very happy with the quality, no issues but I’m not a professional artist either.
