Andre Rieu - The Homecoming

I own several of Andre's DVD's now, and this one is just as wonderful as the others in my collection. I will continue doing business with the seller again.

This is my all-time favorite Andre Rieu concert DVD. He is a 'home town hero' in Maastricht and it really is moving to see how he loves the city and his neighbors love him. On our travels we have actually been in this square, now magically transformed for a live concert by an impressive stage set. Many members of his orchestra are also from the area. For all of them, this is a special homecoming and they seem enthusiastic to share their talents with a wider audience.Two absolutely magical offerings are provided by the local bell-ringer, who is also a regular member of Andre's orchestra. His scenes of 'dashing to and from' the bell tower to perform on one segment have to be seen! A great local voice, Benny ***, sings his great composition, 'Ode to Maastrict' and there is not a dry eye in the place. His performance is a 'shiver-making moment' seldom equaled on DVD. Once again, Rieu offers the 'Radetzky March', an ever-popular signature piece on several of his other DVDs. Other works presented are less often heard but are long-time favorites in the classical music world or in Broadway music theater. The production values are 'first class' and the whole experience makes one feel like one was present during a magical evening.The 'extras' on the DVD are eye-opening in revealing the multitude of steps it takes to put on a show like this and to record it for DVD.If you are only buying one Rieu DVD, this should be it. But why stop there?

Since Woodstock, Rock and Roll has had its super events, ie. Happenings. Luciano Pavarotti was famous for them for opera lovers. Andre Rieu is the master of Happenings for Romantics, people who love contemporary and light classical music in the romantic vein."The Homecoming" is Andre's best happening yet. Here he is showing his love for Maastricht his hometown. His productions in Dublin and Tuscany Italy were outstanding but they were in other lands than from which he sprang. His use of the town itself and its town square as his location add to this love affair.It differs from his other productions in that the majority of the audiance is from this town rich in over 2000 years of history. Andre's selection of songs not only brings out their cultural loves but their passionate love of Maastricht. Being from the United States I am not use to cities with City Anthems and very, very few with multiple love songs sung to them.There is far more audience participation in the songs presented with thousands of people matching the vocal performers word for word.This is a MUST for all romantics let alone all Andre Rieu fans!

Andre Rieu has always incorporated humor & bits of "funny business" but the first time my hubby & I saw the violinist Frank Steijns rushing up the stairs in the church tower in Maastricht to play the carillon for the Concierto d'Aranjuez in this video, I thought we would fall off the bed laughing. Then he had to do it all over again for the Swinging Bells of Limburg.Thank you, Frank, for making my favorite part of ANY Andre Rieu video ever. The mobile carillon is special, but it doesn't have the fun of all those stairs to go with it! Keep up the good work!

On the downside, this DVD doesn't include a lot of "special" numbers or guests. It's still a great show but lacks some variety. On the upside, don't miss the special features--it includes some additional numbers and provides a sense of what goes into setting up these concerts. Be prepared for sub-titles throughout. Even if you speak/understand Dutch, my understanding local dialects make it challenging for Hollanders to understand each other!

None of your readers mentioned BENNY NEYMAN, who appears as the mystery guest on this magnifient DVD.Benny is an aging (but gracefully) 56 year old tenor, a Dutch hero and very famous especialy in hs hometown of Maastricht where this DVD was recorded. Benny is a cross between Frank Sinatra/ Julio Iglesias and Charles Aznevour. at all stages of his career. He is still doing concerts all over Europe. I am an 80 year old grandmother and this composer/singer really turns me on. This DVD is worth buying for Benny's 10 minutes alone but the whole concert is en enthusiastic beautiful version of life, Maastricht style with huge audience participation and an international treat. Andre Rieu brings so much joy to his music. I commend him and all of his DVD's. Bettie Magee Natick, Massachusetts, USA

I saw a portion of this video quite by accident and decided that I would buy it. It was superb absolutely mesmerising. Andre Rieu's showmanship, creativity, sense of humor and talent is captivating. This performance is one of the happiest performances I have ever seen. The young gentleman who rings the church bell and plays the chimes was delightfully funny and a great addition to the show. I hate to admit I can never remember what his profession and skill is called. The costumes of the orchestra, the wonderful blue lights of the square, the happy smiles, and dancing audience also lend a wonderful and an almost heavenly air to the staging of this concert. Wonderful just wonderful!Trust me, Dolby or not it is a very satisfying buy. Pop the wine or champaign and relax with this one!

Great concert. This was a gift to my mother and she found it spectacular. The special features are almost worth the price of the DVD alone. I really liked the part where they take us backstage and show us how complex it is to prepare a show like that with comments from Andre and his son, band members and a few others. It's a little long so make sure you have a good 3 hours of spare time in peace before you put it on. We saw most of the live concerts he has done and personally I think this is one of his absolute best.

Firstly I wish he would start issueing his concerts on BluRay - they would really benefit from this. Enjoyed this programme with a great opening. The beauty of Andre is that even though some of his presentations are not in English, it takes nothing away from the enjoyment of the music and singing. Keep it going but look at BluRay

オランダのホームタウンコンサート、アンドレリューは　”音楽は楽しむもの”と、お堅いクラシック音楽を優しく身近にしてくれます。オーケストラと観客が一体となり、教会の鐘との演出、女性歌手の素晴らしさに感激し、日本のコンサートには出掛けたいものです。大画面で見る画像は綺麗で、片面2層、ボーナス分（会場設営と準備など）含め、たっぷり3時間は家族で楽しめます。将来はホームシアターにして迫力ある音響設備にしたいです。

As usual it is delightfu,l moving, all round good. Andre' s choice of music is pretty much mine.Having spent many years in a church choir there is a big connect there . Also some humour really neededin our .Covid-19 world.

もう、こんなに楽しいDVD久しぶりでした。言葉は分からないのですが、演奏するメンバーと、それを鑑賞する観客との一体感はうらやましくも微笑ましく、どんな不機嫌の時もこれを一見すると機嫌はいっぺんに治る。もっと　多くの方に観てほしい作品です。
