Irish corn
While I enjoy Andre's music and own several DVD's, this one just felt "off" to me. I was expecting to see at least some Irish scenery and culture, but this DVD is filmed inside a concert hall. You do get to see quite a few old folks take to dancing in the isles though (if that's your thing!). My advice would be to go for the Vienna DVD if you were going to chose only one of his "non Christmas" shows.

When Irish eyes are twinkling, keep yours peeled for the bull!
Is the bull corny or cute? Two guys are hoofing it in a costume, so you decide. But please, don't have a cow. Espana Cani is a really fun piece of Spanish pasodoble music and things are supposed to get LIVE-ly IN DUBLIN. Andre Rieu is a master at keeping his audience spellbound and delighted. They are at the edge of their seats when he promises a birthday gift for Uncle Paddy. No one expects a life-size "doll" - made in England, the Dutchman quips, but she's Brazilian - singing the Song of Olympia from the Tales of Hoffmann. As far as my little granddaughter is concerned, the Irish got their pot of gold with the bull and the doll. She also approves fully of charmed couples waltzing in front of the stage, until the Maestro pretends to lose his concentration and The Blue Danube abruptly stops flowing. He clearly cannot afford to fiddle around when he joins John Sheahan of The Dubliners in playing the wildly popular Irish Washerwoman. In terms of speed acceleration, it's the "bullet train" number in this very fun, yet elegant concert at The Point Theatre, a former train terminal in Dublin. I fell in love with Teun Ramaekers and his superb artistry on the flute. Like many of his fellow orchestra members, he dazzles with musical and comedic talents. I know Beethoven approved, because he showed up with his Ode to Joy. LIVE IN DUBLIN has the feel of a satisfying family reunion. The more I attend, the more I identify with those smiling Irish and Dutch eyes. If you are a classical-music elitist and smell a rat, this Mozart nut gives you permission to jump ship. Why else would Andre Rieu play the TITANIC song, "My Heart Will Go on"?

Great concert but...
The music is great. Good sound on the music, however, you can hardly understand Andre. Whoever recorded this did a lousy job. If the musiv is at the tight volume, you can hardly hear Andre. If you can hear him, the music is too loud. Would have given this 5 stars otherwise.

Fun For The Whole Family
The traditional view of a symphony performance is one of a stuffy conductor and a stone-quite audience. Well, Andre Rieu will have none of that!Andre conducts and plays violin (both superbly). Throughout the performance he will make jokes and interact with the audience. During The Blue Danube, he encourages the audience to get up and waltz. The orchestra is the Johann Strauss Orchestra and you will immediately notice the beautiful waltz gowns on the ladies.Wonderful music and some amazing vocals round out an amazing program.I first saw part of this on PBS with my daughter and father (4 and 82 respectively). They both loved it. I immediately ordered this DVD and watched it with my daughter. Sever tracks into the DVD my wife forbid me from watching when anyone was trying to sleep. She heard my laughter from the other side of the house. This was because of something done during a Spanish bullfighting number (you'll know the piece).Suffice it to say, if more symphonies performed like this then classical music would be far more popular among young people. Watch this one. Now.

Andre!!
Andre is great. This DVD dates to when he was just getting into the swing of what he does so well and is just full of Andre moments. My 84-year old mother never fails to erupt in laughter during the Chianti song. If I have one complaint with this production it's that the Irish clap along with no relation at all to the beat, which can be distracting at times. Overall, I highly recommend this.

A joyful treat for the whole family!
If you have never been to a classical concert...or listened to one...or seen one on TV ....this is your chance to experience for yourself and to show your family (children especially) what a glorious & fun-filled evening a classical concert, under the magical guidance of Andre Rieu can be.From the moment the loud sound of music heralds the appearance of the orchestra as it enters the theatre, marches down the aisles to take their positions on stage you will find yourself captivated by sheer joy.You will wish you were there...dancing in the aisles along with the rest of the audience; singing with the crowd.Nothing stuffy here.....just pure entertainment.

A GIFT FROM THE MOTHER LAND
The great thing about all Andre' Rieu DVD's is that he will transport you from your livingroom to ANY country where he performs. The scenery is spectacular, the locals delightful and the music breath taking. Just choose a place or location you have always wanted to visit, but feel you may never have the oppertunity to do so, and Andre' Rieu will take you on the trip of a lifetime. Another must.

Andre Rieu -- Live in Dublin
This DVD is special because it has the "Olympia" song on it, the song the doll sings from "Tales of Hoffmann." If this were the only piece on the DVD, it would be worth it. The performance is not only Andre Rieu's typical A+++, but it is unique & wonderful; I show it to anyone who comes to my house. The rest of the DVD is the same Andre Rieu we know & love (if you don't know, buy it anyway; it's worth the gamble). Under "Special Features," there is a tribute to America that will make you weep. It's not from a conservative or liberal point-of-view--it's truly patriotic. Anyone who is emotionally connected with WWII or anyone who was moved by 911 would appreciate it. Again--it would be worth the price just for this one piece.

Duplicate
I have no idea if this is a good video or not. It was for my Mother who doesn't have access to Amazon. I have given it only one star because it is a duplicate of the other DVD she also ordered at the same time in different Packageing with a different Title "The Last Rose - André Rieu live inb Dublin" it is not made clear that it is a re-release of the same video.

Musical peace, Irish welcome.
The Orchestra and singers have grown since these early years, and it's not difficult to see why.The musical excellence of Andre Rieu and his talented band of players brings calm and serenity wherever they play and Dublin was no exception. Sellout concerts for Orchestral aren't always a certainty but with Andre's brand of music and humour teasing the audience it is almost a certainty.Marvellous music and great atmosphere combined to make this one of his most memorable away from his own beloved Holland. If the rendition of 'O Mio Babbino Caro' and the haunting flute music of 'My heart will go on', the Titanic theme, doesn't grab your musical soul, you shouldn't even listening to musical excellence like this.

Time for real magic
This is real magic. If you don't know Andre Rieu, now is the time to break into this enchanting world. All the ingredients of a wonderful performance are present. He is charismatic to the nth degree. He is enjoying himself and so is the orchestra and the audience. The DVD viewer normally at a remove is drawn in with ease. At the end of the concert, you really don't want it to finish.

This DVD has exactly the same content as "The Last Rose", but has a different cover and title!
I was caught out by the cover and title change. Notwithstanding its very good, but I already had it in its different guise.
