Like other reviewers
Like other reviewers, I've found that it just doesn't work. Works perfectly if you remove it from the wheel and point it at the stereo but it is actually mounted inside the rim of the wheel so the IR signal is blocked. Why is it advertised as 'Remote Control with Bluetooth? There is nothing Bluetooth about it! False advertising and not fit for purpose! My impressions weren't helped by the fact that it was obviously one that someone else tried and sent back. Instruction sheet a bit crumpled, very second hand plastic bag holding the mount, battery already installed in the remote and finally, the pack wasn't even sealed. You could see a piece of tape where it was sealed when new

It works better than expected
Having read all of the existing reviews I did not hold out much hope but as it was the easiest option to start with I gave it a go. Surprisingly, having unpacked and removed the battery tab I held it in the position I intended to attach it and it worked! I’ve since attached it using the bands supplied and taken it for a couple of drives and it does the job. It is fitted in a VW Transporter so the steering wheel is on roughly the same level as the head unit, which probably helps. I can’t yet figure out where the IR leds are but pressing any of the buttons doesn’t seem to interfere with the ‘signal’ so hopefully it’s a success. Only dropped to 4 stars because it lacks any lighting to identify the controls, though I guess familiarity will overcome this. Also the unit seems to be designed for a LH drive vehicle, attached to the right side of the steering wheel. Attaching on the left does mean that the release catch is visible, a small but annoying point. The bands attaching the unit to the wheel are quite stretchy so you have to make sure they are on as tightly as possible to prevent movement - the contour of the steering wheel probably helps on my van but on a different shaped wheel there might be issues and it’s difficult to gauge how much you can haul on the bands before they might break.

Works For Me
I have this mounted on the left hand side of the steering wheel of my Mercedes SLK. This does place it at only slightly above the level of the unit itself and quite close - probably about 7-8 inches. It works fine to me and you can access all the important controls without having to reach across to the unit itself. The two straps for attaching it to the steering wheel work well for me - it seems to be firmly in place. You can download the full manual from the Pioneer web site. May be worth a try if your steering wheel is not too far from the unit. It may also help to mount it on the lower half of the steering wheel if that gives you a better "line of site" between the remote and the unit itself.

It works, but an IR extender solves the problem
First of all, I'll preface by saying CHECK THE INSTRUCTION MANUAL OF YOUR PIONEER HEADUNIT and make sure it can be used with an Infrared remote control. This unit does NOT connect with Bluetooth - it's a standard IR remote control that can be used to CONTROL the Bluetooth functionality on your headunit.Secondly, as others have observed, being an IR remote control it needs to be used within a reasonable line of sight of the head unit. Depending on the positioning of the head unit and the position of the steering wheel, you'll probably discover that the remote control works but when you actually strap it to the steering wheel, it doesn't.I solved the problem with a USB powered IR extender - you stick the transmitter end onto the IR receiver point on your head unit (look for a black panel about 2mm square - position will vary depending on your headunit) and the receiver end goes somewhere else - I installed mine with the receiver just underneath the steering wheel, in a position where the remote control has line of sight and it all works fine now. This is a big pain in the backside and I was lucky enough to have previously installed a number of USB power points in the car and already had the dash off to install other equipment, so this was a quick install... but not everybody is up for this kind of installation... It is, however, the only real way to make this work properly if your car has no stock steering wheel interface.

Good remote control
My car had one of these for 10 years but eventually it played up. Got this one nice and cheap on here, approx £22 delivered. Fitted it to the steering wheel and it's spot on. People do say this is not Bluetooth....I don't need Bluetooth, but do look into that if you need it.Works brilliantly, battery included, bracket and two rubber straps. Instructions too.Delighted with it, and arrived in two days. Cool.

Expensive piece of rubbish
Firstly, who from Pioneer tried and tested this before letting it go to market to be sold to consumers.Disappointing is an understatement , the whole item is just not fit for purpose. The 2 rubber bands that hold it onto your steering wheel are crap when you press the button on the remote it pushes the remote round the steering wheel,It wont work anywhere on the steering wheel, I've tried in every position and it just wont work.Brilliant if you take it off the steering wheel, but this then defeats the whole object of having a steering wheel remote.I'm angry at pioneer as a company who thinks that selling items to consumers that are not fit for purpose is simply OK, well its not. Please ..... DO NOT BUY THIS, YOU WILL BE VERY DISAPPOINTED IF YOU DO !!!!Please save your money, I know its a problem having to press the head unit with your fingers but at least doing that , it works.....
