Will this work on a wall rather than a desktop?

This grommet is designed to fit on a desk top this allows a 13A plug to be put through it, or other cables, and then the top piece rotates to fill the hole around the cable to a small slot. The top does clip in but whether or not it would stay in on a vertical situation as in a wall I am not convinced. It is designed to fit into a thin board like a desk top, wall might be too thick

Can cables with uk plugs on fit through this without having to remove the plug?

Yes. If it is one of those bulkier than normal mounded plugs, put it through the ring before you press the ring into the cutout in the furniture so you can flex the ring as you push the plug through.

What size whole do you need to drill for the grommet to fit?

I would do a 60mm hole. Then if necessary sandpaper it a bit if the grommet is tight fitting. But should be ok. Just find someone who has a drill with a round cutting attachment of 60mm. If you drill too wide a hole I guess you could wrap tape around grommet to make it fit tightly.

Is this item real white or off white or grey?

White - good product if that helps
