Laila London - Activated Charcoal Tooth Whitening Powder 60ml

I was tempted to try a different type of oral/teeth cleaning product to the usual toothpaste variety that we normally have available to us. I know that many years ago in India, before the age of Colgate, the people would actually brush their teeth with a bark like stick and a powder/dirt. Sometimes we think modern advances in health means more improvement, but it's easy to forget that a lot of commercial toothpastes are laced with chemicals and other stuff which can actually have some form of negative effect on our bodies; and maybe over many years of accumulation, our health.So as a step in a new direction, I went looking for a powder based tooth cleaner. After searching around, I was looking for one of the powders that are sold in India but I was hesitant as even though they have great benefits and include some really good ingredients, they are also sometimes laced with bad things such as known bad sweeteners and chemicals (which is a shame really as it kind of negates the good things). Although this product by Laila lacks some of the great time-tested natural ayurvedic ingredients that another Indian brand uses, what's great about this particular product is that firstly is is 100% organic and chemical free (main concern ticked off my list)! Secondly, the inclusion of a few little "mouty freshening" ingredients that atleast help to give that nice "refreshing" feeling in the mouth we are all use to from using conventional mint toothpaste. The one extra little bonus that made me want to part with my cash was the fact it uses activated charcoal - do read up on why this is actually a great inclusion!Now when it comes to using the product, I found that a tiny pinch would not really be enough to give a refreshing taste, so I use a generous size pinch of the powder and put it on the palm of my hands. Then with a wet toothbrush I scoop it onto the bristles and brush away. The 1st thing you'll notice is that the whole "fresh" flavour is not as strong as your normal toothpaste. Secondly due to lack of SLS (foaming agents), you wont get that foamy lathering effect you maybe use to. But of course there's an ingredient they use which is bicarb soda (I believe) put in the mixture. Bicarbonate soda is actually a great non abrasive ingredient to use for brushing your teeth in general (arm & hammer toothpaste is my regular) and leaves a nice zingy feeling in your mouth. However, I found that it was not mixed that well, so when I was taking my pinch of the powder, I had to make sure I was also looking for a white speck to make sure I got some.Overall a good quality product, will last a reasonable length of time so is a decent value for money given it's portion and ingredients. I do recommend you try it, the benefits are their, you just have to change your stubborn toothpaste ways ;)

After reading mixed reviews I was a little bit skeptical to buy this product at first. Especially how the majority of the people reviewing it have been giving a discount to review it.However I'm very pleased with this purchase! It feels a little strange to use at first but you get used to it after the first few brushes. If you wildly brush your teeth, understandably you will get little black dots around the sink etc.. But simply take your time and it won't be messy. But it easily cleans off.I brushed my teeth with ordinary toothpaste first and then used this activated charcoal afterwards.you can either dab your brush into the pot or put some on your hand and then put it on your tooth brush.I recommend leaving it on your teeth for a few minutes and then rinsing it out. Apparently it works better. (recommended by a friend).Some people expect this to work after the first brush... Don't. It takes a good couple of weeks to see the difference. And it is definitely worth the wait.After a couple of weeks I got a lot of compliments on how white my teeth looked and they feel nice and clean to.It comes in a small glass pot. But it lasted me a good month, using it twice a day and I know fine well my mother and sister were also using it haha.I would most definitely recommend anyone to buy this product and give it a good month use and you will be amazed with the results.A few members of my family are now using this product after my recommendation and never shut up about it haha.[...] you can also look at my others reviews as a reference to see I am always honest and speak my mind. I like this product for many reasons. Firstly I was pleasantly surprised when I opened the tub as the powder was very fine and didn't give off an awful smell (as I was expecting). It does feel gritty to use but in a gentle way and only a little is needed each time. My teeth looked almost black initially but the powder easily washed away with mouth wash. My teeth felt much cleaner after using this, compared to normal toothpaste and I noticed my breath smelled fresher straight after using this. It is a bit more faffy than using normal toothpaste but I do like it and will continue to use it until the tub is empty and then review fully whether or not I want to buy again. I haven't really noticed any difference in whiteness to my teeth but they may be a bit brighter. It's difficult to tell any real difference. Overall I think it is good value for money and as my breath seems fresher and my teeth cleaner, when I use this, I'm happy!
