Frankly I can't believe I took as long as I did to select this Rapesco tape dispenser. I must have spent the best part of 15 or 20 minutes checking out multiple different dispensers from various manufacturers, reading various reviews describing the horrors of blunt blades, broken pieces, leaking grey dust, bad smells and high cholesterol levels (that last one is made up...).So I thought I'd write this review to help someone else potentially save themselves some time...I already have a small Rapesco dispenser and have never had any issue with it, so leaned towards the brand to begin with, but even so I still had my doubts when I clicked 'buy' on this larger one - mainly due to the reviews that mentioned broken pieces. Well, it turns out that I needn't have worried.The item arrived in a large Jiffy bag and was boxed. It's obviously quite a weighty item so I guess if it had been thrown around in the post then there is a chance something could get broken - but that's the luck of the draw and your postie. My unit was undamaged.In the box is the base itself in a plastic bag and, in a separate plastic bag, two moulded plastic pieces that form the wheel that holds the tape.You fit the central tapered spindle (see photos) into the wheel - it only fits one way and you'd have to really really go out of your way to force it in wrongly. You then put a reel of tape onto the wheel - again, there are tapered ridges on the outside of the wheel that mean the tape reel will only really fit with ease one way. You then slot the ends of the central spindle into the L shaped slots on the top of the base; these L slots engaging with the ends of the spindle prevent the whole wheel from coming out when you pull off a piece of tape. I really can't see how anyone could break them unless they really forced something. You can see from the photos that there are small fin supports at the base of the spindle ends to help prevent breakage.The base of the unit is covered in soft foam rubber that in combination with the weight of the unit prevents it from slipping on the desk/surface when in use. You can see the surface of my desk in some of the photos - nothing special - and it works absolutely fine with no slippage.Obviously I haven't used it a lot yet so cannot vouch for the blade, but it feels very sharp and I've used the small Rapesco frequently for many years and it still works fine so I am confident this one will too.I hope this review was of help.

Bought as an 'add on' item so it was a very good price for such a substantial product, it is very heavy - which means it stays in place when you pull the tape off. Great buy ahead of wrapping season and something I have always meant to get but just never got around to it, glad I have now. Very pleased with the quality of the product for the price. Little bit of scuff marking on it (so I have reduced my rating by one star), but it does not effect the operation so I'm not going to worry too much about that.Please do note that it does not come with tape (it does not state that it comes with tape either), I have inserted my own tape for the purposes of the picture - easy to insert, no instructions required. It takes the bigger rolls of tape, the one I have in is a cheap unbranded roll so you are not confined to using the more expensive brands with this dispenser.All in all pleased and it looks and feels like it will last for years.

A lovely stylish cellotape dispenser that I would urge alll home owners to purchase.Very well made, this item is much better than fiddling around with trying to locate the tape end. Scissors? Unrequired!I love mine!MRC

Great item, is quite heavy but this is good as it keeps the tape dispenser still while being used. Is of a good quality, and perfect for the festive season when needing to wrap presents.

Great value

Was dubious if it would be heavy enough for the price, was shocked as it was heavy and very stable and easy to use. Thought it would be flimsy for the price.
