A lively story
This is the second copy I have used. Unfortunately my latest purchase did not have the CD in it. The CD enhances the story and I used to use it in a preschool. It is still good as a standalone story involving a new pirate on a ship. The illustrations are large and easy to see, the story rhymes too.

sing/play/read, simple, catchy, fun, dance, swash-buckle, action, happy CD!
My 5 & 2 year old (boy & girl) loved singing along, playing percussion & dancing to this 'musical story' and still do (story is sung by someone who's voice reminds me of Tony Robinson - time team/Black Adder!). Now 6, my eldest still loves it - he sings along by following the words now that he can read, even though he knows it off by heart! The story has all the pirate essentials - storm, treasure, man over board etc...Also there is a page at the back with simple 'single note at a time' music to play along (I have played along with the descant recorder) and there are also guitar chords. Also there are a few pages at the back that tell something about a few real famous pirates in history. Also there is a page about different pirate ship types. Also there is a double page picture of a galleon that has a numbered key to learn the what each bit of it is called!...I would recommend it for sure..we are not 'into pirates in a big way but this book we very much like!

Fun sing along
Love this book. Barefoot Books has an amazing collection and this is one of their great ones. It’s fun, easy to read and has great illustrations. You can also add actions to it to make the song a fun mat/story time song.

Just great.
This is a wonderful book and CD for younger children. I have used it with 4, 5 and 6 year old children. It is repetitive - but that is what they need when they learn to sing-a-long. The animated tale on the CD is really colourful and fun. You also have a choice of whether to have just the music or the music plus singing or just the music and the lyrics. Really good value for the money.

Good quality
They read this book with my son at nursery. We bought it and he wants to read it everyday. The song is also on YouTube if you don’t have a CD player. It’s not obvious what tune to read it to without the song.

Catchy music and a beautifully illustrated book - what's not to like?
My little pirate fan (who is just turned 3) got this for his birthday and loves it. I don't think the CD has left his CD player yet, in nearly a month - it's surprisingly catchy too (my husband and I have both been caught singing it with no children in earshot! Yes, the CD is a bit short - I'd have liked a few more songs - but it certainly appeals to its target market. The reason I gave this 4 stars instead of 5 is that the book is a bit odd. It has the lyrics to the main song in, beautifully illustrated with interesting pictures to talk about with your child. However, it's a bit of a repetitive reading experience - great set to music, pretty dull without and extremely painful if Mummy has to sing it every night! It also has a few pages of pirate facts and a diagram of a pirate ship at the end - fine for me, but lost on a small child (it seems like the end of the book is suddenly aimed at much older children).I'd definitely recommend this for pirate fans from 2 - 6 but you'd better make sure your singing voice is up to it! Once they've heard the CD then you'll not get away with just reading it ever again!

Port Side love! Awesome book for young kids.
This is my 2-year old son's favorite book. Every morning he asks for "Pirates". The Barefoot Singalong series is really well done, and this is my favorite book of them all. Beautiful illustrations. Great song that is easy for little ones to sing and won't drive the adults crazy. Also, you can watch a video of the song on youtube. We especially love looking for the baby pirate in the pictures. My son's school uses this book and the kids go crazy for it. Worth the price.

It was his favourite Christmas present I think
Our little guy is so obsessed with Barefoot Books, seriously. He sets up libraries at home and little 'book shops' in his room with exclusively Barefoot Books. LOVES them. The songs, the stories, everything. Port Side Pirates was going to be a hit, we knew it. And we were right! It was his favourite Christmas present I think. He could have been done after opening up that gift. It's like all the Barefoot Books in its beautiful art, lovely writing, fun, rhyming, wonderful rhythm. And the pirates are fantastic... now we're onto the Barefoot Book of Pirate stories. Also fantastic!

Utilissimo per introdurre i propri bambini all'inglese

Oh we go this way, that way, port side, starboard,Over the deep blue sea! All hands on deck!, Land ahoy!, passend mitgegeben, der bei evtl.
