TP-Link 150 Mbps Portable 3G/4G Wi-Fi Travel Router (Support 3G/4G Router Mode/Access Point Mode/Client Mode, No Configuration Required, UK Plug (Archer MR3020))

This device was up and ready to roll in minutes. The packing has a curious resemblance to Apple ® Inc's AirPort Express and includes an USB power supply, ethernet cable, quick setup guide and a half sized a CD-ROM resource disc. The last is optional as you can download an extremely detailed PDF from TP-Link's website. The web/router interface is highly navigable and good for those seeking to tweak their configurations. Renaming the SSID and reassigning an encryption password is very easy. And now for the most important bit....Adding a 3G USB modem. In my case it was immediately usable upon first use. My 3G USB modem is about four years old and licensed to very well known UK/European ISP and made by Huawei of China. The web/router interface also enables you to look up ISPs but it should immediately connect. It has several modes of use. 3G USB Modem, WISP and AP (Access Point). It can also be used as a repeater, i.e. it can extend the range of an existing router. It appears to be quite generic in that it works with most platforms. I am currently using Mac OS X, Linux , FreeBSD and MS Windows. The literature does not mention Windows 8, but I cannot see any reason why it would not function under that OS. iOS, Android and BlackBerry OS should all work. After all, it's a wireless router. This product is a bargain and so far I have no complaints. Again, a great product for any seeking to use a 3G USB modem through WiFi for laptops, smartphones,tablets. and even desktops through ethernet. Impressive device. We live in a remote place with terrible mobile and broadband coverage, also frequent powercuts which leave us with no way of contacting help. I hoped that buying this, I would at least have a connection to the internet via it and our netbook. I had a 3G dongle which was on the approved list for this router but the ISP (3) does not cover our location so I had the dongle unlocked and put in a Giffgaff sim which does cover us, what could go wrong? Well just about everything. Suddenly the dongle is no longer recognised. It appears it is only recognised when a 3 sim is in it which is useless to me. I do have one glimmer of hope, an O2 dongle which I'm told will work and I will see if it does. Featurewise, this tiny box, 3" square has more features than some standalone routers costing 4 times the price. Other than the 3G, which I cannot use yet, it is an amazing piece of technology and the reason I still give it 5 stars. Used as an access point (AP) it is incredibly easy to use, just plug it into your router or network socket, set the switch to AP and you have wireless access with full WPA2 security. It comes with a power supply, mine was a european 2 pin jobbie so requires an adapter but units delivered from the UK will have UK PSU's I'm informed. I really am very inpressed with this little device, there is even an online community devoted to reprogramming it to do all sorts of other things and if my O2 dongle shennanigins don't pan out, I may have a look into doing just that. So, CHECK YOUR DONGLE IS ON THE COMPATIBILTY LIST before buying, not ony the dongle model but the ISP (O2, 3, Voda) must match too and hopefully you will not be dissapointed. Edit: Since writing the above, I've discovered that this router is very sensitive to which power supply you use. I had tried using a 7000ah battery pack used for powering and charging my iPhone which outputs 5v 1A but no way will the router work, neither will the 3G work when plugged into a USB socket but plug in it's own PSU and everything works as promised. Strange. I have a feeling that the addition of the 3G dongle is causing more power to be drawn and some internal protection circuitry or software prevents the router from activating the dongle. So, mystery solved and I'm even happier than I was before :-).

I used to have a 3Mobile router to go with my 3Mobile Huawei E156G USB stick to provide internet connectivity on my boat. Stick was great, but the router was a bit limited. I have installed a remote CCTV camera that I dial into for security when I am not on board the boat, and although it worked with the old router, it had the most basic port forwarding and little else. I have a fair bit of TP link stuff already and love it, so this was perfect, and powerful. what I loved most was that I plugged the USB stick in and it started working without any config...! love the size and flexibility - it has the same software as its much bigger brothers. only issue was that the default IP is 192.168.0.254.... not 192.168.1.254 like the rest of the world might assume.... it took me a while to work out why I couldn't ping it - but you cant blame the kit if the instructions are written on the side of the unit(even if the text is so tiny you will need younger eyes than mine to read it) the PSU that came with the device is 5v, 1 Amp with a USB socket, (its not a TP link one, so might be something added by the UK seller) and the power socket on the router is a mini USB connector. For some inexplicable reason it came with a USB-MiniUSB cable with a USB splitter attached.... that is 2 USB male connectors on one end. no idea why, but no harm done. it also comes with a really nice flat cat5 cable - its only just over a foot long, but its ideal if you wanna keep things tidy. anyway - brilliant piece of kit, so cheap and so powerful.

Finde dieses Gerät sehr hilfreich. Ich verwende es mit einem Fonic-Surfstick. Vorteile: Man kann es dort aufstellen, wo der Empfang am besten ist. Dadurch bessert sich trotz zusätzlichen Gerätes (also des TP-Link) die Verbindungsleistung im Vergleich mit dem Einstöpseln des Surf-Stick direkt in den PC. Stromzufuhr über USB vom PC/Laptop od. per Netzteil (das Kabel ist allerdings recht kurz). Man kann mehrere Geräte damit verbinden: z.B. Laptop und Tablet und/oder Smartphone gleichzeitig od. zwei PCs. Empfangsleistung gut, auch schräg durch eine Wand (wenn der TP-Link z.B. zentral im Flur steht. Habe somit bisher nur die WLan (aber nicht die reine LAN-Funktion) verwendet. Einzig mir bisher aufgefallener Nachteil: Während mir beim direkten Anschluss des Surfsticks an den PC/das Laptop in der herstellereigenen Software der Kontostand (noch vorhandenes, geladenes Guthaben) angezeigt wird, sehe ich das über den TP-Link nicht und muss somit den Surfstick, wenn ich die Nutzungstage nicht von Hand mitzähle, in den PC einschieben und diesen manuell abrufen. Die Geschwindigkeit ist natürlich an der oberen Ecke nicht schneller als die des Surfsticks (wie sollte sie auch), aber − wie eingangs erwähnt − dadurch im Vergleich mit dem eingestöpselten Surfstick dadurch zu verbessern, dass man den TP-Link z.B. direkt ans Fenster oder eine Stelle stellt, die einen besseren Empfang ermöglicht. Ich jedenfalls würde mir den TP-Link für die genannten Funktionen wieder kaufen.
